The art and culture scene in particular was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and repeatedly brought to a standstill. With “Vans & Dance”, Mercedes-Benz Vans Mobility has given dancers the opportunity to stand on stage in an unusual format but still comply with all distance and hygiene requirements in order to move and inspire their audience. For this purpose, the principle of the drive-in cinema was transferred to the art of ballet on the site of the former Berlin-Tempelhof airport. 340 guests were able to enjoy the event comfortably and safely in a total of 140 vehicles from the rental pool of Mercedes-Benz Van Rental. For this purpose, the cars and vans were arranged in six rows according to their size in a semicircle around the stage.

In the first two rows there were around 30 Mercedes-Benz cars from the Berlin branch, behind them in three rows 68 V-Class vehicles and in the last row 42 Sprinters, each from Mercedes-Benz Van Rental. The program was transmitted with a lively sound experience via the MBUX infotainment system in the vehicles. This extraordinary event was a collaboration between Mercedes ‑ Benz Vans Mobility and 86 dancers from the Berlin State Ballet and the Zehlendorf ballet and dance studio with the participation of Eric Gauthier, dancer, choreographer, musician and founder and director of the highly regarded Gauthier Dance Company at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart. In a two-hour program with works by Mozart and Tchaikovsky, among others, the stars and young up-and-coming dancers thrilled the audience with their skills on the Tempelhofer Feld last Saturday.

Mobility and movement as a passion

"Mobility and movement are our passion - this applies to the dancers of the Berlin State Ballet, to the children of the Zehlendorf ballet and dance studio and to Mercedes-Benz Vans Mobility. We have to motivate the cultural industry, but especially the big and small stars, through events like this - especially in the current phase - to keep them going. Culture is so important in our everyday life. So it was a personal concern of mine to make this event possible.“, Said Stefan Sonntag, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Vans Mobility GmbH.
