After the GranTurismo and GranCabrio models are no longer produced, the portfolio of the Italian luxury brand Maserati has so far lacked a veritable sports car. But that is about to change now that the Maserati MC9.9.2020 was presented on 20, which is supposed to lead the now very sedan and SUV-heavy traditional brand back into the super sports car segment. This vehicle, which was originally intended to be shown a few months earlier, but whose premiere was postponed due to Corona, is intended to lead the brand's racing tradition into a new era. The name Maserati MC20 stands for Maserati Corse (Italian for racing) and the year 2020. This year a whole new era is to begin in the age of the more than 100-year-old traditional brand.

Spectacular design with scissor doors!

When standing, the first thing that strikes you is the very stretched and geometric-looking design, which makes the 4,67 m long, 1,95 m wide and 1,22 m high super sports car appear brawny and stocky. Compared to its competitors from Lamborghini or McLaren, the MC20 is a few centimeters higher in order to offer optimal comfort even to taller pilots, even if they are wearing a helmet. This is where the brand's racing genes come to the fore. It is noticeable that the engine cover in the rear area does not leave any space for a rear window, which makes parking and maneuvering a challenge. Headlights and radiator grille look very modern, but also typical of Maserati, which is why it is immediately recognizable as a Maserati at the front. The massive side skirts and the lower part of the rear section, which also houses the two exhaust pipes, are black, as is the roof and the engine cover, which is made of polycarbonate. This creates a sandwich look that is sure to cause some controversial discussions.

In contrast to the front, the rear lights do not speak the design language of the brand with the trident, and could also come from a Porsche 911. However, they fit harmoniously into the aerodynamically sophisticated body, which does not require any spoilers. The optical highlight are of course those scissor doorsthat open upwards and forwards, and thus ensure a spectacular show when getting in and out. For smaller pilots, however, it is certainly complicated to close the doors again, as they have to stretch very far forward during this process. Electrically closing doors would have been an optimal solution. All in all, the Maserati MC20 is a super athlete of the purest water, which knows how to convince with a modern and sporty design.

The interior is modern and puristic.

The interior is dominated by leather, carbon and Alcantara, and the sports seats, which are laser-cut and whose accent color can be freely chosen by the customer, live up to their name. The steering wheel is made of carbon and contains the button for launch control and the engine start button. There are only a few switches in the center console, because all functions, apart from the window regulators and gear selection, are controlled via a 10,25-inch touchscreen emblazoned on the center console. The digital instruments that are part of the standard equipment are - as usual - not touch-sensitive. And in the MC20, a new generation of Maserati infotainment makes its debut, and with the help of RCTA, (Rear cross traffic assist), Blind spot warning and one Parking assistants It should also be easier for inexperienced pilots to cleanly park the MC20, which is extremely confusing to the rear. Curiously, the car has a standard W-LAN hotspot to which up to eight devices can be connected, but only two seats.

Biturbo V6 gasoline engine called Nettuno!

But now we come to the heart of the Italian thunderbolt, the "Nettuno" called 3-liter V6 biturbo engine, which with 630 hp and 730 Newton meters of maximum torque, at least on paper, offers impressive performance. The power-to-weight ratio is just 2,33 kg / hp, which means that, according to Maserati, the new MC20 should sprint from 2,9 to 0 km / h in just 100 seconds. 200 kilometers per hour are then reached after a short 8,8 seconds, and the top speed is an impressive 325 km / h. The low curb weight of 1.470 kg also gives it high driving dynamics, which means that the vehicle is certainly a lot of fun on the racetrack and on winding mountain passes.

Starting price is over 200.000 euros

Many Maserati fans who have already hoped to put the super sports car in the garage soon have to take a deep breath. Under 210.000 euros you will probably not get the benefit of being able to call the car your own.
