Project Rekall: Maserati Shamal Restomod by GIC & Maserati.

The Italian tuner Garage Italia Customs seems to revive a central model from the 90s by Maserati. Namely the exotic coupe Shamal. In cooperation with the Maserati Fuoriserie (Maserati customization department) Garage Italia Customs wants to set up a special restomod concept according to various social media postings under the leadership of Agnelli heir Lapo Elkann. It is intended to bring back a memory of the XNUMXs and is intended to pay tribute to the Maserati icons, who shaped an entire era with their unmistakable shapes and details. Maserati has not yet commented on the project. The drawings published so far give a little outlook. The Restomod project clearly shows a new edition of the angular Shamal (1989 – 1995) built less than 400 times.

back then with 3,2-liter twin-turbo V8

The coupe had a 3,2-liter twin-turbo V8 with 326 hp and 436 Nm under the hood and was set in motion by means of rear-wheel drive. And typically Restomod you can already see many modern details and optimizations in the drawings. Instead of halogen lights, LED light sticks are installed, but also, like back then, a spoiler below the windshield, there are new seven-spoke rims and an extendable spoiler is installed at the rear. It continues with angular instead of round exhaust pipes, but the B-pillar cladding in the style of a roll bar is again typical Shamal from back then. And the style of Maserati and Garage Italia is continued in the four-seater interior. There are apparently angular carbon sports seats with integrated headrests and leather cover, there is a lot of carbon on the dashboard, a digital speedometer and the center console has lots of switches and buttons. A classic, round steering wheel is apparently planned for the driver and a look at the pedals reveals a classic manual gearshift due to the clutch pedal.

Digital speedometer with "Turbo" and "Gas" lettering

The mentioned digital speedometer is equipped with "Turbo" and "Gas" lettering and a classic fuel gauge can also be seen. That lets hope it will no E-vehicle will but a real car. Probably with a supercharged gasoline engine, which is probably aiming for a maximum speed towards the 299 mark, alluding to the number 300. Whether the value 80 in connection with the equation “x100” also reveals the maximum speed of the engine is not yet entirely clear. It will be interesting to see what surprises the “Rekall” project from Maserati and Garage Italia will have in store. One is already known: namely the possibility of being able to participate in the design via the Maserati Fuoriserie Instagram channel. All subscribers are called upon to complement the Shamal Restomod project with their own ideas. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report.
