When you think of tuned Mazdas, a Mazda 2 is probably the least likely to come to mind. In the JDM tuning scene it plays almost no role at all, since it was never considered sporty and dynamic, but mostly as dull, boring small car is viewed, which mainly serves as a means of transportation but does not arouse any emotions. The Japanese tuner Auto Exe would now like to change that and presents a restyling kit for the currently smallest Mazda, which in our opinion significantly enhances the design.
Sporty design on the small car!
Visually, after tuning, it looks like a potent hot hatch when it shows itself with a body kit. The set includes a large spoiler with a front splitter, pronounced side skirts with aerodynamic components and black door handles and wind deflector. At the rear there is a fixed roof wing, fake air intakes in the rear bumper, a prominent diffuser and a larger tailpipe. This gives the styling a sporty character and looks almost as aggressive as on the Hyundai i20 N. There is also a metal-look fuel cap, which is strongly reminiscent of a trend from the millennium years. From our point of view, this does not really fit the restyling kit. Unfortunately, the engine of the Mazda 2 does not match the much more dynamic styling of the small car from the Far East, because Tuner Auto has an increase in performance Exe not on offer.
1,5 liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with Skyactiv technology
The little one can only throw 115 hp and a mere 151 Newton meters of maximum torque into the scales. You won't be pulling any trees with it, even if the curb weight is only 1.072 kg. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 9,5 seconds and the top speed is 200 kilometers per hour (according to the speedometer). Despite the relatively amazing driving values, the car can't keep up with a Polo GTI or an i20 N. These both offer roughly twice the power and torque. It is shifted via a six-speed manual gearbox, which transmits the power to the front wheels.
Our conclusion:
- More appearance than reality. The restyling kit is the ideal choice for extroverts who like to lay it on thick. All other car fans are certainly better served with a "real" hot hatch.
