McLaren today announced the 620R, the first car in its class to offer real motorsport ingredients in a fully street legal package. The limited edition coupe - only 350 will be built - incorporates competitive specifications of the McLaren 570S GT4 to deliver a racing car experience on every track and street. “The McLaren 570S GT4 is a world-class GT racing car that has won every championship it competed in since it was first used in 2017 and is attracting more and more customer racing teams. Motorsport experience with authenticity
The McLaren 620R - a car that will be rare and sought after thanks to its strictly limited edition - celebrates the achievements of the 570S GT4 as the ultimate model in the McLaren Sports Series. The McLaren 620R is a unique offering that offers a pure motorsport experience with authenticity in a street car: It looks like a racing car, drives like a racing car, acts like a racing car, performs like a racing car and feels like a racing car. The overall result is a seamless transition from the racetrack to the road - and vice versa. Exclusive and extreme at the same time, the McLaren 620R retains the DNA of a fully homologated racing car, but is free from the restrictions of the racing rules. The 620R shares the same M838TE 3,8 liter twin turbo V8 engine used in the GT4 vehicle, but with a significant difference in performance. The freedom from racing regulations has made it possible to reconfigure the engine control unit and turbocharger management to generate 620 horsepower, making it the most powerful sports car in the Sports Series to date. The engine develops a torque of 620 Nm and even with lap times that are more important compared to the pure top speed, the combined power contributes to benchmark performance values of 0-100 km / h in 2,9 seconds and 0-200 km / h Delivered in 8,1 seconds.

The adjustable carbon fiber rear wing is the same component as the 570S GT4. The wing, which is positioned 32 cm above the vehicle in the clean airflow in order to increase downforce and at the same time minimize air resistance, is street-legal thanks to the newly installed third brake light. Customers receive their vehicles with the wing set to the least aggressive of the three available angles, which optimizes the front / rear balance for road traffic. The more aggressive angles - which can be set by a McLaren dealer - add even further downforce at the rear, contributing to a maximum of 185 kg (408lbs) and allowing for even better track performance. While the rear wing on the 620R literally stands out as an obvious differentiator, it's not the only component borrowed from the GT4's aggressive track spec and compliant with street legal standards. The front bumper, splitter and bonnet have been redesigned - the splitter has been given the distinctive aero Blades and cutouts reduced - while the carbon fiber hood has two openings to aid downforce and direct airflow over the top of the car. The downforce at the front of the vehicle is further increased by Dive Planes, which create air vortices at track height and help accelerate the airflow along the sides of the vehicle and greatly aid in brake cooling.
Driving characteristics like a typical racing car
The Dive Planes contribute up to 40kg (88lbs) downforce, as part of the 65kg (143lbs), which goes through the complete frontal Aero package to be delivered. The 620R's performance, feel, feedback and driving characteristics undoubtedly make the driver think that it is a racing car, but there are other obvious cues that can be seen even before the engine is started. The interior is clear and immediately inspired by the racetrack - every GT4 racing driver will immediately feel at home. As with any serious circuit car, it's as much about what's removed as what's included - the 620R has neither a floor carpet nor a glove box. Air conditioning, IRIS navigation and an audio system are also absent from the standard specification, although all can be selected at no additional cost. A lightweight audio system enhanced by Bowers & Wilkins is also available as an inexpensive option. The driver and front passenger are secured in super-light carbon fiber racing seats with standard six-point racing belts. The most important “track touchpoints” include the red 12 o'clock mark on the steering wheel and door pull straps, which make it easier to close the door when a driver is already being held by the racing seat belts. Structural carbon fiber elements such as extended paddle shifters, steering wheel spokes and the center console reinforce the feeling of being in the cockpit of a racing car.

A McLaren Track Telemetry (MTT) system is standard and is displayed on a centrally mounted 7-inch touchscreen. If buyers choose the optional MSO Roof Scoop Upgrade Pack, which features the distinctive air intake port first seen in a Sports Series at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2018, the MTT system can be expanded to include the three-camera system, which is also available as a standalone option. Every McLaren 620R has a dedication plaque on the center console with numerical designation (1 of 350; 2 of 350, etc.). Individual elements, such as the color of the brake calipers, can be selected as individual specifications. Alternatively, customers can opt for upgrade packages such as the Gloss Finish Visual Carbon Fiber Exterior Pack, which visually enhances everything from the side inlets to the exterior mirror housings. McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has more personalization options with a range of MSO-defined exterior options, including a Titan Super Sports Exhaust interior finishes defined with nano-black exhaust and MSO that include a choice of seat belt colors.

All three standard exterior colors of the 620R are inspired by GT4 racing cars - McLaren Orange (with white racing stripes), Silica White (orange stripes) or Onyx Black (orange stripes) - and can each be provided with start number stickers and / or partner stickers. Other exterior colors are available in the MSO range. An even more exclusive printed special film, inspired by the McLaren Senna GTR, is also available. Production of the McLaren 620R will be limited to just 350 customer orders, all of which will be handcrafted at the McLaren Production Center in Woking, Surrey.
