Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

With the EQE SUV, Mercedes-AMG is presenting another milestone in its electrification strategy - the first all-electric SUV from the performance and sports car brand. With its variable interior and performance-oriented drive concept, it is the most versatile electric vehicle in the Mercedes-AMG portfolio. The new model also offers plenty of space for passengers and luggage. Like the AMG EQS sedan and AMG EQE sedan, the AMG EQE SUV is also based on the Mercedes-EQ electric platform. Two powerful electric motors and the fully variable all-wheel drive form the basis for the dynamic driving experience typical of AMG. The Mercedes-AMG developers have also designed many other parameters themselves. These include the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with adaptively adjustable damping, rear-axle steering and AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL – AMG-specific roll stabilization.

Mercedes AMG EQE SUV

Added to this are the AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE and the design of the exterior and interior. There are two versions of the new performance SUV to choose from: the entry-level Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 4MATIC and the even sportier Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+.

“The AMG EQE SUV is another milestone in our future of driving performance. The new model is our first all-electric SUV. And after the two sedans AMG EQS and AMG EQE, it is already the third performance vehicle that we are realizing as a derivative on the Mercedes-EQ electric platform. With the variable interior and high-performance all-wheel drive, it is the most versatile electric vehicle from Mercedes-AMG. A real all-rounder – and a real AMG!” says Philipp Schiemer, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

"The compact format of the EQE SUV, the short wheelbase and the performance-oriented drive concept form the perfect starting point for realizing an agile, very emotional and luxurious driving experience with our AMG-specific solutions. This applies in particular to the areas of drive, chassis, brakes and sound. In this way, we ensure that our customers can look forward to our brand-typical Driving Performance,” says Jochen Hermann, Technical Director of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Exterior design with characteristic AMG elements

The exterior design is characterized by generously modeled surfaces, reduced joints and seamless transitions. Dynamic proportions emphasize the sporty character. Many AMG characteristic elements guarantee a high recognition value and help to strengthen the brand. This includes the AMG-specific black panel radiator grille with hot-stamped vertical struts in chrome, integrated Mercedes star and "AMG" lettering. The brand-specific badge on the bonnet with the AMG coat of arms instead of the Mercedes star is new: it now adorns a purely electric vehicle from Mercedes-AMG for the first time.

Another front feature is the AMG-specific front apron, painted in body color, with A-wing in high-gloss black and chrome trim. The same look characterizes the front splitter in high-gloss black with chrome trim and flics and fins on the air intakes. The air outlets on the left and right in high-gloss black enable what is known as the AIR CURTAIN effect, which guides the air around the front wheels in a streamlined manner. The standard DIGITAL LIGHT headlights have a specific AMG projection when opening and closing the vehicle.

When viewed from the side, AMG-specific wheel arch claddings in the vehicle color and the seamlessly integrated, fully recessed door handles set visual accents. There are also aerodynamically optimized AMG light-alloy wheels in the dimensions 21 or 22 inches. The rear apron in the body color with an aerodynamically optimized diffuser and longitudinal fins, as well as the helix-design taillights round off the dynamic appearance.

Interior design with a particularly sporty note

The style-defining AMG elements also dominate in the interior. Here, the new models offer a sporty ambience, including the seats with individual graphics and special seat covers in ARTICO man-made leather with MICROCUT microfibre and red topstitching. Alternatively, seat covers in nappa leather are optionally available, also with an AMG-specific upholstery layout. In addition, the AMG badge on the backrests of the front seats and the embossed AMG emblem in the front headrests emphasize the brand identity. There are also numerous other details that underline the independent style of the interior:

  • Instrument panel and beltlines in ARTICO man-made leather in space gray with NEOTEX grain and red topstitching
  • Door center panels and transition from the center console to the dashboard in microfibre MICROCUT black with red decorative stitching
  • AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather, flattened at the bottom, perforated in the grip area with silver-colored aluminum paddles for setting different levels of recuperation, and the standard steering wheel buttons for individual assignment of vehicle-specific settings
  • AMG sports pedals, AMG floor mats and door sills with "AMG" lettering (illuminated with interchangeable cover)

The AMG Performance steering wheel with its striking double-spoke design and seamlessly integrated buttons combines visual stability with lightness. The flat-bottomed steering wheel rim with nappa leather cover can be heated as an option. The standard AMG steering wheel buttons impress with brilliant displays. This allows important driving functions and the driving programs to be controlled without having to take your hands off the steering wheel. Numerous parameters can be selected directly. The menus on the left steering wheel button can be individually supplemented, exchanged or reduced. There is a list for this in the multimedia touch display or in the optional hyperscreen with more than 15 information and setting options for direct selection for the steering wheel buttons.

Optional hyperscreen with AMG-specific functions and displays for the MBUX infotainment system

Both new models can be optionally equipped with the innovative MBUX Hyperscreen. This large, curved screen unit extends from A-pillar to A-pillar. Three screens sit under a cover glass and merge optically. With adaptive software, MBUX adapts entirely to its user and offers them personalized suggestions for numerous infotainment, comfort and vehicle functions. With the so-called zero layer, the most important applications are always situationally and related to the context on the top level in the field of vision.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

In Europe and China, dynamic content is also permitted on the passenger display while driving. Watching films, text messages or presentations and surfing the Internet are therefore unlimited. This is made possible by the so-called “fade out function”, which prevents the driver from seeing the content. But even without dynamic content, the front passenger display remains an attractive eye-catcher, because then a new, AMG-specific screensaver appears. MBUX offers a range of additional AMG functions that emphasize the performance character. This applies in particular to the independent displays in the instrument cluster as well as the multimedia display and the head-up display. The corresponding direct access button in the center console allows quick access to the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

The Dolby Atmos® sound format takes the audio experience in the EQE SUV to a new level. Individual instruments or voices in the studio mix can be placed around the listening area. A new type of sound animation is thus possible: Because while conventional stereo systems usually have left-right dynamics, Dolby Atmos® can use the entire range and create a 360-degree experience.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

With the premium platform for digital entertainment from Californian specialist ZYNC, which is integrated into a vehicle for the first time, customers receive a seamless digital entertainment experience. The advantages of the MBUX Hyperscreen are fully exploited. ZYNC gives customers access to a variety of renowned global and local streaming services. The ZYNC platform focuses exclusively on the realities of vehicle interiors and can be seamlessly integrated into vehicle hardware and operating systems. This increases the audiovisual experience, interaction and usability. ZYNC offers video streaming, on-demand content, interactive experiences, local video programming, sports, news, games and much more from a single interface.

Performance-oriented drive concept with two electric motors

Both new Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV models offer a performance-oriented drive concept with two electric motors. The powerful electric drive train (eATS) with one motor each on the front and rear axles also offers fully variable all-wheel drive, which optimally transfers the drive power to the road under all driving conditions. The performance spectrum ranges from 350 kW (476 hp) in the EQE 43 4MATIC to 505 kW (687 hp) in the EQE 53 4MATIC+ with optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package with boost function. The maximum torque ranges from 858 to 1.000 Nm.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

The AMG-specific electric motors on the front and rear axles are permanently excited synchronous machines (PSM). The consistent performance characteristic is already clear here through the power and torque values. In addition, the e-machines are characterized by an optimal balance of increased performance, efficiency and noise comfort. The electric motors of the EQE 43 4MATIC SUV have AMG-specific tuning and control. The EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV uses AMG-specific electric motors with modified windings, different laminated cores, higher currents and a modified inverter. This enables higher engine speeds and thus even more power, which is particularly noticeable when accelerating and at top speed.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

The electric motor on the rear axle is particularly powerful thanks to its six-phase design, based on two windings, each with three phases. The stator with pull-in winding ensures a particularly strong magnetic field. Added to this is the highly resilient thermal concept, which enables repeated acceleration maneuvers with consistently high performance. The core of the sophisticated design is the so-called water lance in the shaft of the rotor, which cools it. Other AMG-specific cooling elements in the cooling circuit are special ribs on the stator and the needle-shaped pin-fin structure on the inverter, which is made of high-performance ceramic. Then there is the transmission oil heat exchanger: in addition to cooling, the oil is also preheated during a cold start in order to increase efficiency.

Fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive

The power of the engines is transferred to the road by the standard, fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC (EQE 43) or 4MATIC+ (EQE 53) all-wheel drive. Contrary to what was previously used, the "+" in 4MATIC+ not only stands for the fully variable all-wheel drive that the EQE 43 and EQE 53 have in equal measure, but also for the overall plus in performance and dynamics that the EQE 53 offers. In both models, the system continuously distributes the drive torque between the front and rear axles depending on the driving situation: Compared to a mechanical all-wheel drive, the electro-specific system ensures a significantly faster reaction. The torque is checked 160 times per second and adjusted if necessary. The torque is distributed depending on the selected drive program: In the "Comfort" program, the focus is on maximum efficiency, in "Sport" and "Sport+" the power is distributed more towards the rear in the interests of greater lateral dynamics.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

AMG RIDE CONTROL + suspension with adaptive adjustable damping

The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension with air suspension and adaptive adjustable damping is based on a four-link axle at the front and an independent multi-link axle at the rear, each optimized with AMG-specific wheel carriers, suspension links and anti-roll bars with greater rigidity. In its basic features, it corresponds to the chassis of the AMG EQS and the AMG GT four-door coupé, but the tuning has been adapted to the AMG EQE SUV. The rear axle carrier is connected to the body shell with 50 percent stiffer bearings and reduced bearing play in order to create even more direct contact with the road. The AMG engineers have specifically tuned all the components so that they meet the special requirements of Mercedes-AMG customers. This applies to driving comfort as well as driving dynamics.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

Two so-called pressure-limiting valves are used in the adaptive adjustable damping. With the help of these infinitely variable control valves fitted outside the damper, the damping force can be adjusted even more precisely to different driving conditions and driving programs: A valve controls the rebound stage, i.e. the force that occurs when the wheel rebounds. The other is the compression level when the wheel deflects. Rebound and compression are controlled independently of each other. This technology makes it possible, on the one hand, to increase comfort and, on the other hand, to make driving dynamics even sportier.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

The control unit of the chassis control adjusts the damping force for each wheel in a few milliseconds according to the situation by means of data analysis - including from acceleration and wheel travel sensors. The AMG developers were able to significantly increase the spread between sportiness and comfort. Among other things, this is due to the expansion between the minimum and maximum damping force characteristic and even greater flexibility in the design of the map. By using the two adjustment valves, the damper is able to guarantee damping force adjustment in all areas of wheel vibration. Thanks to the special design of the valves, the damper reacts quickly and sensitively to changing road surfaces and driving conditions.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

Efficiency also flows into the intelligent driving level control, which enables better aerodynamics and lower power consumption. In the driving programs S and S+, the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV models already drive to the low level (-0 mm) from 15 km/h. In drive program C, there is speed-dependent control with a reduction from 120 km/h and an increase from 80 km/h. The special tires, which are specifically tailored to the requirements of the all-electric AMG performance vehicles, also contribute to the high driving dynamics potential. Among other suppliers, the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV MO1 tire, specially designed for performance vehicles with electric drive, is worth mentioning. It is available in the dimensions 21 or 22 inches and is characterized by low rolling resistance and a very high level of grip on wet and dry roads.

With active rear axle steering as standard

Both Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV models are equipped with active rear-axle steering as standard. The steering angle of up to 9,0 degrees promotes agile handling and enables a turning circle of 10,9 meters. The interaction between the front-axle and rear-axle steering is designed in such a way that agile response with little steering effort is achieved on city and country roads. At speeds below 60 km/h, the rear wheels steer in the opposite direction to the front wheels. This makes the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV agile, light-footed and agile. This has a particularly positive effect when turning, when changing direction quickly and when manoeuvring. From a speed of more than 60 km/h, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels. The resulting virtual longer wheelbase offers increased driving stability and driving safety at high speeds, fast lane changes or sudden evasive maneuvers.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL: electromechanical active roll stabilization(only AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV)

Instead of using conventional anti-roll bars, the active roll stabilization in the AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV compensates body movements electromechanically. For this purpose, the anti-roll bars on the front and rear axles are divided into two. In the middle is an electromechanical actuator with an integrated three-stage planetary gear. On uneven roads, the actuator actively separates the stabilizer halves from each other, which increases driving comfort. When driving dynamically, the halves connect with each other and are twisted against each other. This significantly reduces rolling movements. In order to meet the high performance requirements of Mercedes-AMG, the system is based on an additional 48-volt sub-board network. The AMG developers redesigned the rear of the vehicle to accommodate the roll stabilization.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

Advantages of electromechanical roll stabilization:

  • Greater spread between comfort and sportiness than with a mechanical solution
  • Precisely compensates body movements. The handling remains precisely controllable and direct, even in the sporty limit areas
  • Not only reduces rolling movements when cornering, but also enables more precise adjustment of the steering and load change behavior
  • More driving comfort when driving straight ahead, because stimuli from one-sided bumps in the road are compensated for
  • Significantly faster response than hydraulic systems
  • Lower component weight compared to hydraulic solutions

For an individual driving experience: AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs

The driver can change the driving characteristics at the touch of a button in order to adapt them to the current situation or his or her preferences. This is made possible by the five AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs "Slippery", "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport+" and "Individual". The programs cover a wide spectrum, from a high level of comfort to pronounced sportiness. Important parameters such as drive and performance characteristics, chassis settings, AMG DYNAMICS with steering torque characteristics, among other things, and AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE are modified according to the selected drive program. The maximum drive power can be called up in the Sport+ driving program, or in all driving programs via kick-down. In the drive programs (except for Sport+), the maximum power is adjusted to increase efficiency and reduce consumption.

EQE 43 4MATIC SUV EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV
smoothness 50% power (=175 kW) 50% power (=230 kW)
Comfort 85% power (=300 kW) 80% power (=368 kW)
Sport 90% power (=325 kW) 90% power (=414 kW)
Sport + 100% power (=350 kW) 100% power (=460 kW)
RACE START without boost function 100% power (=350 kW) 100% power (=460 kW)
RACE START with boost function (included in the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package) unavailable 110% power (=505 kW)

The driver can also preselect the basic tuning of the chassis via the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs: at the touch of a button, the handling varies, for example, from maximum dynamics in "Sport+" mode to smooth cruising in the "Comfort" setting. In addition, the tuning can be adjusted in three stages using a separate button, independently of the driving programs. Depending on the driving program, the central drive control unit automatically activates different de-rating and cooling strategies: With "Sport" and "Sport+", the cooling system is activated earlier and the cooling capacity is increased in order to be able to keep the released power longer. The driver has the opportunity to increase the driving pleasure - for example on closed roads - with the ESP OFF function.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

AMG high-performance braking system

The AMG high-performance brake system with six-piston brake callipers and brake discs measuring 415×33 millimeters on the front axle and single-piston brake callipers and brake discs measuring 378×22 millimeters on the rear axle delivers first-class deceleration values with high stability and durability. The optional AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system uses even larger brake discs measuring 440×40 millimeters at the front. Another high-tech feature is the intelligent, electromechanical brake booster iBooster. It ensures that the braking system combines electrical recuperation with the hydraulic brake in a highly efficient manner. For the authentic driving experience, the iBooster is specially tuned to the typical AMG pedal feel and the AMG brake system.

AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE: a unique sound experience with a wide range

With the AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE, the performance and sports car brand is giving electromobility a new voice – a soundtrack for the outside and inside that emotionally reinforces the dynamic driving experience. Like the driving programs, the acoustic composition also offers a wide range: In the standard basic version "Authentic", the customer can regulate the sound and its intensity depending on the driving condition and the selected driving program. The typical AMG drive sounds are generated with the help of additional hardware. These include special loudspeakers, bass actuators and a sound generator. Another option for even more individuality: using the AMG steering wheel buttons or the central display, the driver can select the sound characteristics "Balanced", "Sport" and "Powerful" in each driving program. At RACE START, the vehicle produces a unique sound that matches the dynamic acceleration.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package also includes the AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE "Performance", which creates an even more emotional soundscape, also optionally "Balanced", "Sport" or "Powerful". In addition to the drive sounds, it also includes a large part of the so-called event sounds - suitable sounds for all vehicle functions that generate noises. This includes locking the vehicle as well as starting and stopping the engine. The program even simulates the blinker clicking because many drivers don't want to do without the well-known sound. The AMG-specific event sound, which sounds when the vehicle is locked, is completely new. The event sounds can be deactivated at any time via the settings of the multimedia system - separately for outside and inside.

AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package with dynamic driving extras

The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package, available as an option for the EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV, combines driving dynamics extras - including the powerful boost for the RACE START, the increase in the maximum speed to 240 km/h and the emotional AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE "Performance". Sounds specially composed for this sound world - for example for charging or infotainment functions - round off the AMG experience.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

The driving dynamics keep what the sound promises: With the right temperature and charge level, the maximum power and torque for the RACE START can be increased for a short time. The Mercedes-AMG EQE 0 100MATIC+ SUV then only needs 53 seconds to sprint from 4 to 3,5 km/h. The bass actuator and loudspeakers in the vehicle make the power of the electric motors clear even when stationary and deliver an emotionally charged soundtrack for the high acceleration. The AMG-specific graphics in the displays also underscore the driving performance visually. The AMG Sound Experience, outside and inside separately, can also be deactivated at any time via the settings of the multimedia system.

More options for even more dynamism

Numerous AMG options reinforce the dynamic impression on request. These include design features such as the AMG Night Package with elements in black and black chrome, red brake callipers or the AMG carbon-fibre trim elements. The high-performance AMG EQE SUV models can also be further refined technically in terms of driving dynamics, for example with the AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system. There is also a choice of aerodynamically optimized AMG light-alloy wheels in the dimensions 20 and 21 inches.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

AMG TRACK PACE, the virtual race engineer, is also available as an option: The software is part of the MBUX infotainment system and continuously records more than 80 vehicle-specific data (e.g. speed, acceleration) while driving on a racetrack, for example. In addition, there is the display of lap and sector times as well as the difference to the reference time. Because certain display elements light up in green or red, the driver can see from the corner of his eye without reading numbers whether he is currently faster or slower than the best time. The data is shown on the multimedia display, the instrument cluster and the optional head-up display.

High-performance traction battery with a capacity of 90,6 kWh

The new Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV models are equipped with a powerful 328-volt high-performance drive battery that is manufactured using state-of-the-art lithium-ion technology. It has a usable energy content of 90,6 kWh and consists of ten modules with a total of 360 pouch cells. The battery management system on the EQE 53 SUV is also AMG-specific. In the Sport and Sport+ drive programs, the focus is on performance, in the Comfort drive program on range. The battery generation is characterized by a high energy density and has a high charging capacity. Also new is the ability to update the battery management system over-the-air for continuous improvements over the lifecycle. The EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV also has an AMG-specific wiring harness that is adapted to the higher performance. A major step has been taken in terms of sustainability in cell chemistry: the cobalt content has been reduced to ten percent, the optimized active material consists of a ratio of 8:1:1 nickel, cobalt and manganese.

Short charging times thanks to intelligent thermal management

Another advantage of the new generation of batteries are the short charging times. The energy storage device can charge up to 170 kW at fast charging stations with direct current. In this case, electricity for up to 15 kilometers (WLTP) can be recharged in just 170 minutes[2]. Thanks to the onboard charger, the electrified AMG can be conveniently charged at home or at public charging stations with 11 kW or optionally 22 kW with alternating current. Bidirectional charging will also be possible in Japan, i.e. charging in both directions. There are also intelligent charging programs that can be activated automatically depending on the location. Functions such as particularly battery-saving charging make the processes even more efficient.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

Efficient thermal management also contributes to the reduction in charging times. If the intelligent navigation with Electric Intelligence is activated, the battery is preheated or cooled while driving in order to reach the optimal temperature for fast charging at the charging point. The desired temperature range of the battery is achieved with the help of the cooling circuit and a PTC auxiliary heater (Positive Temperature Coefficient) integrated there.

The battery design aims to ensure the optimal operating temperature of the energy storage device under all operating conditions. The extruded aluminum profiles of the battery frame have defined cavities through which the coolant flows. All in all, the intelligent temperature and charging management ensures that high charging currents can be maintained for a long time. The standard heat pump uses the waste heat from the electric drive (inverter and electric motor) and the high-voltage battery to heat the interior. This reduces the need for battery power for the heating and thus increases the range. Another function is pre-conditioning.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

The battery is also characterized by its longevity. The ECO Charging function makes a significant contribution to this: the intelligent control reduces the battery load during charging and thus slows down the natural aging process of the battery. Customers also benefit from the “interrupted charging” function: the charging process can be paused at freely selectable times, for example to be able to use cheaper off-peak electricity at a later point in time. The battery certificate stands for the long service life of the high-voltage batteries. It is valid for a period of up to ten years or up to a mileage of 250.000 kilometers.

Intelligent recuperation for efficient energy recovery

The battery can also be charged through efficient energy recovery through recuperation. The recuperation power reaches up to 260 kW[3]. The driver can set the level of recuperation in three stages using shift paddles on the steering wheel and can be supported by the ECO Assistant in a way that is tailored to the situation. In recuperation levels D and D, one-pedal driving and combined braking to a standstill is possible. In DCars deceleration of up to 5 m/s² is achieved, of which 3 m/s² is due to recuperation (2 m/s² via the AMG high-performance braking system). With the help of the optional DRIVE PILOT, the system automatically decelerates to vehicles ahead until they come to a standstill, for example at traffic lights.

Sustainable use of electricity thanks to Mercedes me Charge

With Mercedes me Charge, customers have always been charging green at every public charging station throughout Europe since 2021. High-quality proofs of origin ensure that as much green electricity from renewable energies is fed into the grid as is taken from Mercedes me Charge. In the first three years after purchase, there is no basic fee for Mercedes me Charge and thus Green Charging for customers. Another advantage is IONITY Unlimited: All European EQE SUV customers can use the IONITY fast charging network for a year free of charge via Mercedes me Charge. With the new Plug & Charge function, the AMG EQE SUV can be charged particularly conveniently.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

Mercedes me Charge is currently the largest charging network in the world: it currently has more than 500.000 AC and DC charging points in 31 countries, including over 200.000 in Europe. It also includes the 336 fast charging stations of the IONITY fast charging network co-founded by Mercedes-Benz. In addition, the functionality of Mercedes me Charge in MBUX has been expanded to include functions such as filtering and forecasting the availability of charging stations.

Mercedes me app: easy operation on smartphone and tablet

The Mercedes me app has offered many improved and new functions since the last revision. This includes the filter option, which enables the charging points to be sorted according to criteria such as availability or charging capacity. The app now also shows how much the respective charging station is likely to be used over the course of the day on the basis of a probability calculation.

Predictive route planning and efficient driving with Electric Intelligence

When navigating with Electric Intelligence, the name says it all. Because it plans the fastest and most comfortable route including charging stops based on numerous factors and reacts dynamically to traffic jams or a change in driving style, for example. Electric Intelligence plans a fast and comfortable route including charging stops based on numerous factors, for example based on the calculated energy requirements. The system includes all relevant data in the calculation, from topography and route to driving speed and heating and cooling requirements.

Next E-AMG: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV!

With Electric Intelligence, the new AMG EQE SUV models also react dynamically to the traffic situation on the planned route. The AMG records traffic jams and closures as well as changes in energy requirements. For the calculation, the system uses information from the cloud, which it combines with onboard data. The planned route can be edited individually. For example, the customer can set the additional reserve at the destination and at the charging station (SoC, State of Charge) - ten percent SoC is standard. If the "load at destination" function is selected, the set reserve may be fallen short of until the destination. MBUX indicates whether the available battery capacity is sufficient to drive back to the starting point without charging.

Further options for individual route planning:

  • The route calculation prefers manually added charging stations along the route
  • The driver can exclude suggested charging stations
  • Calculation of the expected charging costs per charging stop

If there is a risk of not reaching the destination or the charging station with the set settings, MBUX will inform you in good time thanks to "Active Range Monitoring" with a message to activate the ECO driving functions.

Comprehensive protection concept: the battery is crash-protected in the underbody

The battery is located in a crash-protected area in the underbody, embedded in the body shell structure including a lateral extruded aluminum profile. During extrusion, a heated block of metal pushes through the dies and turns into an endless profile, which is then cut to fit. This makes it possible to create highly complex profiles that are precisely tailored to the requirements. The housing with energy-absorbing structures on the front and sides and a rigid, double-walled base plate provides additional protection for the modules. In addition, there is a separate, multi-level security system for everyday use. This includes, for example, temperature, voltage or insulation monitoring. If an error occurs, the battery switches off. Crash monitoring when stationary is also standard.

About Thomas Wachsmuth

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
