Mercedes-AMG GT R with KW V5 Clubsport coilover kit!

A rapidly growing segment in the aftermarket is motorsport accessories for near-series vehicles. Many sports car drivers with an affinity for motorsport take part in track days and so-called tourist drives on various racetracks with their vehicles. KW automotive has developed its Clubsport coilovers especially for this clientele of sports car drivers and established them worldwide in this segment. In Friedrichshafen, the suspension manufacturer presented the new KW V5 Clubsport coilovers with parts certificate. With the new product group, KW automotive consistently relies on its KW Solid Piston dampers, which are established in GT3 motorsport, and adapts them for sports cars. The four-way adjustable KW Clubsport coilover kit will be available first for the popular Mercedes-AMG GT R. The recommended retail price starts at 9.999,99 euros.

KW in the Mercedes-AMG GT R

All customers of KW automotive have been benefiting from the know-how in the coordination, development and production of homologated motorsport suspension applications for years. It doesn't matter whether the KW customers are individual automobile enthusiasts or an automobile group. For example, KW was the chassis supplier for numerous Mercedes-AMG Black Series models.

The chassis manufacturer also delivered its special OE coilovers directly to the Mercedes factory for the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro special model, which was limited to 750 units. When it was launched, the GT R Pro was particularly appreciated for its sporty handling and many testers wrote that there is hardly a sports car like the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro that is so close to a racing car despite being street legal. “With the KW V5 Clubsport we are now going a few steps further than with the original equipment for the AMG GT R Pro and with our solid piston dampers we can work much more with the hydraulics themselves. Even with low spring travel, we achieve exactly the damping to keep a sports car safe and easy to drive at all times - even at the driving dynamics limit on the Nürburgring Nordschleife," says Maren Vogt, KW Brand Manager for the Track Performance area, describing the main difference of the new V5 Clubsport coilovers to other suspension applications for the AMG GT R.

The KW V5 Clubsport coilover kit in detail!

The KW V5 Clubsport coilover kit with aluminum uniball bearings, racing springs and four-way adjustable dampers is designed for the use of semi-slick tires on near-series vehicles. The body structure of the Mercedes-AMG GT R remains perfectly supported during aggressive steering maneuvers and the famous compression in the “Fuchsrohr” section of the Nordschleife route. Thanks to the adjustable multi-valve technology, the KW V5 Clubsport dampens bumps and relatively large transverse joints cleanly. Even when cutting curbs, the Mercedes remains safely controllable with the KW V5 Clubsport coilover kit. "With the entire Clubsport chassis design, we already bring a certain calmness into the car in the default basic setup, without having to make any compromises in terms of performance," says Maren Vogt, KW Brand Manager for the Track Performance area, describing the chassis.

With the KW Solid Piston dampers in the KW V5 Clubsport coilover kit, the hydraulic fluid does not flow over the working piston, as is the case with conventional one- and two-pipe dampers. The piston displaces the oil column directly into the valve body, where the damper fluid flows through the low-speed needle valves and high-speed wave valves. The compression and rebound forces can be set separately in the low-speed and high-speed range using the ergonomically shaped adjustment wheels. "Since the Mercedes-AMG GT R has an independent wheel suspension with double wishbones all around, there are no direct wheel-guiding forces on the KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension or the Clubsport dampers," explains Maren Vogt. "In other vehicles such as the BMW M4 (G82), for example, we will manufacture the V5 Clubsport with wheel-guiding MacPherson front axle struts and KW damper cartridges in an upside-down design."

KW V5 Clubsport with parts certificate

Like all KW Clubsport coilovers, the KW V5 Clubsport also has a parts certificate and is now available for all Mercedes-AMG GT R. The continuously adjustable lowering is 10 - 25 millimeters on the front and drive axle. The scope of delivery of the KW coilover suspension made of a high-strength aluminum alloy also includes Unibal dome bearings. Due to the axle geometry, these are not adjustable in camber. The recommended retail price for the KW V5 Clubsport coilover kit starts at 9.999,99 euros. The chassis is already being developed for other vehicles and sports cars.
