With its debut in the W1972 series, the Mercedes S-Class has stood as a symbol of automotive luxury, pioneering technology and first-class driving comfort since 116. In the meantime, the S-Class, which has been on the road for half a century, has proven that it can also have a thoroughly sporty side in addition to its traditional attributes. A brilliant example of this is the Mercedes-Benz S 580 4MATIC of the current W223 series, which received a tuning upgrade thanks to R1 Motorsport, the tuning specialists from sunny California. The 5,20 meter sedan received a refinement package with premium parts that promise a dynamic look.

The vehicle, factory-equipped with the AMG Line specification, has been upgraded with a complete Brabus aerodynamics kit. The front spoiler lip, the front apron inserts and the rear apron insert, together with the matching twin tailpipes, are all painted in gloss black. The contrast gently sets them apart from the bodywork, which is finished with a paint protection film and a satin finish. And the Brabus carbon rear spoiler is a little more prominent.
R1 Motorsport also installed two-piece 501 FRM-S rims from the Vintage Series by HRE Performance Wheels in the wheel arches. The 22-inch wheels, consisting of forged stars and stepped stainless steel outer rims, are fitted with Pirelli tires in sizes 245/30R22 and 295/25R22. The silver cross-spoke stars allow a glimpse of the 'Peach' painted brake calipers and the S-Class also got a significant reduction in ride height thanks to the use of tie rods, laying the sedan flat on the tarmac.
no increase in performance
However, there were no changes to the drive. The S 580 4MATIC is equipped with a 4,0-liter biturbo V8 and electric assistance. The E-Aid increases the torque in particular and offers a further 700 Nm in addition to the maximum 250 Nm of the combustion engine. This gives the S-Class even more poise and sporty elegance.
