Madness: 2020 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 with 558 PS

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC represents a new kind of luxury in the SUV segment. It extends the offer of the Mercedes-Maybach brand by combining the body shape and the technical basis of the GLS with the luxury of a top-of-the-range sedan. Its generous interior, equipped with exquisite materials and very effectively sound-insulated, creates a stylish, cocoon-like feel-good atmosphere. In the comfortably elevated seating position, passengers can decide how much they want to perceive from the environment thanks to electrically operated sunblinds on the rear side windows. The standard air suspension AIRMATIC or the optional, fully active suspension with E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL effectively keep road traffic jolts away from them. For the first time there is an own Maybach driving program for even more driving comfort in the rear. Entry and exit are also extremely comfortable: when the doors open, the car lowers slightly, and on the entry and exit side swings quickly and silently an illuminated footboard. The treads are made of anodized aluminum. The V8 engine with four liters displacement and 410 kW (558 PS) and 730 Nm torque is an engine variant exclusively developed for Maybach and moves the car discretely and powerfully. The engine is combined with the 48-Volt-System EQ Boost. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC will be launched in the second half of the year 2020.

conspicuous: the chrome struts on the radiator grille

The classic Mercedes-Benz star sits enthroned on the bonnet, while the fine vertical chrome struts of the Maybach grille look like pinstripes. Effective chrome accents around the side windows and the chrome inserts in the side skirts make the profile look classy and elegant. The 22 or 23 inch wheels were designed exclusively for this model, the 23-inch version cites the pinstripe motif. The tailpipe trims with a small crosspiece emphasize the Mercedes-Maybach identity. The same applies to the brand emblem, which was placed in different places like the D-pillar. As a Maybach-specific feature, a two-color finish is available in eight different, elegant color combinations. An eye-catcher of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS are the electrically extendable running boards. They make getting in and out of the high seating position comfortable and safe. With anodized aluminum treads, which are traversed by black rubber louvers, illuminated in the dark and particularly wide in the rear doors area, they ensure a special staging. When retracted, the footboards hide in the sill paneling. If a rear door is opened, the footboard on the respective side automatically swings outwards in about one second. This presetting can be changed by a special menu in the MBUX infotainment system. In favor of the space available in the rear, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS is available exclusively with two rows of seats.

The equipment: luxury, leather and reclining seats

The features of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC are already extremely luxurious as standard. The two rear outer seats can be electrically transformed into retirement. The upholstery and the instrument panel are covered as standard with fine nappa leather, on request there are a number of additional cushions and even more leather upholstery on the interior trim. An electrically opening panoramic sliding roof with opaque Venetian blind must be ordered in addition no more than air-conditioned massage seats. For example, the firm center console, which turns the car into a spacious four-seater, in whose rear you can work as well as relax, can be ordered as a special request. For this console there are on request extendable folding tables, but also a fridge with space for champagne bottles. The range of accessories available for this are matching silver chalices. For the active scenting as part of the optional AIR-BALANCE package, a special scent was composed for the Mercedes-Maybach GLS: the white osmanthus blossom, floral and light, is rounded off with a soft leather note and spicy tea.

many components of the technically related SUV

From power transmission via the chassis to headlight technology, the technical systems of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS are at least as comfortable as the most technically related Mercedes-Benz SUV. Building on this basis is often offered a plus that is typical Maybach. Thus, the noise insulation has been raised to an even higher level, as behind the rear seats a rigid partition and a fixed parcel shelf separate the interior of the trunk. A separate air conditioning unit for the rear seats is standard and has additional outlets and heaters, with which the temperature control succeeds even faster and draft-free. For suspension and powertrain there is a separate driving program Maybach; his attitudes offer particularly the rear passengers highest driving comfort. With the standard MBUX rear tablet in the center console or the center armrest between the rear seats, the extensive comfort and entertainment functions can also be operated intuitively from the rear seats. The integration of digital terminals of passengers in the vehicle includes all current standards. If we get more information soon, there is of course an update for this report.
