Open and close in no time
On request, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has electrically powered comfort doors at the rear. The long rear doors can be opened and closed easily even on a slope with little effort. The integration in MBUX and the blind spot assistant offers a high level of operating comfort and additional security. The rear doors can also be operated from the driver's seat - an important function in chauffeur-driven operations.
There are seven operating options to choose from with the comfort doors: You can ...
- ... manually with the door handles inside and outside,
- ... with the vehicle key,
- ... via the central display in the first row of seats or
- ... the displays of the rear seat entertainment and
- ... can be opened and closed with a push-pull switch in the headliner.
- With the MBUX interior assistant rear, they can be closed with a corresponding hand movement.
- The doors can also be closed automatically via the sensor surface on the outside door handle.
A single push of a button is sufficient to close. Continuous pressure is required when opening, because the operator remains responsible. The comfort doors offer blockage detection. Opening is also monitored by the Blind Spot Assist if it is active: If the system detects that another road user is coming from behind, the door function is automatically deactivated.
If the buyer of a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class opts for the comfort doors at the rear, a door strap without detent and with a clutch that can be driven, as well as an additional door control unit are installed in the vehicle. The comfort doors had to pass extensive tests typical of Mercedes-Benz. Before they could prove their ease of use and reliability as part of the overall vehicle testing, they had already been tested on various test benches including a climatic chamber. The acoustic behavior and the safety functions were also tested in detail.
The power-assisted closing of the doors and trunk lid is standard on the Mercedes-Maybach. The doors only have to be operated by hand until they click into place for the first time; the closing then occurs gently and almost silently thanks to the corresponding electrical function of the lock.
