The idea of building a Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 as a practical station wagon may seem somewhat bizarre. But in the mid-1996s such a car was actually put on its feet and the result was pretty cool - but also took some getting used to. And the real Skyline fans either hated or loved the fast loading truck. As far as we know, the one-off was published by the Japanese automobile magazine in XNUMX Option built and shown to the world public for the first time at the Nagoya Performance Car Show. The man behind the project was Daijiro Inada as the founder of Option who is also co-founder of the D1 Grand Prix - D1GP (Series car drift series from Japan) is. The basis for the conversion was of course a real R33 GT-R, which, however, received the rear of a Nissan EXA canopy in many hours of manual work.
faster than a McLaren F1
Although little information is known about the engine, it is certain that the complete powertrain of the RB26 with two turbochargers is still installed, which with ample tuning is able to generate over 1.000 hp at any time. And that this example received significant modifications to the engine shows the lap times at that time on Japan's Tsukuba racetrack. The Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 has that Speedwagon namely completed in only 1: 04.452 minutes and was therefore faster than the McLaren F1 over-car at the time. It is even faster than many modern performance vehicles such as the Porsche 911 GT3 from the 997 generation, the Audi R8 V10 or, for example, a Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG. And of course the Pampers bomber could also go straight. For example, he completed the quarter mile in 11,89 seconds. And even the cabin has been massively revised. There is a specially adapted roll cage and hand-signed sports bucket seats from Recaro with a red cover.
Endless sports brake system with blue calipers
In the wheel arches of the body with Top secret body kit turn multi-part Volk GT-C alloy wheels, which house a modified sports brake system from Endless with blue calipers and large slotted brake discs. And of course, a species-appropriate sports exhaust system should not be missing. A befitting example with a tailpipe in the typical stovepipe style was therefore installed to give the six-cylinder a hearing. The Godzilla "Speed Wagon" has appeared in many magazines and videos and even had an appearance in the Option Tuning Car Battle Spec-R, Racing, 2000 Video game for the PlayStation. There it was classified in the “ET” category and the “G2” group as an “R-Wagon” and had top marks for top speed and acceleration and only one point less for handling.
