Opel Rocks-e: New City Stromer for a new era!

Completely different, completely new, completely electric - Opel presents the first  . The new Opel Rocks-e stands for Ssustainable Urban Mobility (sustainable urban mobility). The emission-free entry-level electric vehicle is the answer to the mobility requirements of our time - progressive, clear and courageous, typically Opel. The new City-Stromer offers modern electromobility for young people from the age of 15 with an AM driver's license¹ - and well protected from wind and weather. With the 2,41 meter short two-seater, Opel is consistently continuing its electric offensive. The manufacturer is expanding its model portfolio below the Corsa-e to include a battery-electric SUM that everyone, from young novice drivers to commuters from the outskirts, can afford. Because the starting price for the new Opel Rocks-e will be well below that of a small car and the leasing rate will be the same as a monthly ticket for local public transport. The new Rocks-e will be available to order online or in direct sales from selected Opel dealers in Germany as early as autumn - further markets are to follow in 2022.

Our SUM enables smart and functional electric mobility for everyone - and its styling will cause a sensation. Opel is approachable, simply human and cool at the same time - the new Rocks ‑ e underlines that once more, ”says Opel Germany boss Andreas Marx.

My First Opel: Clean, clever and extra-cool in the city

The new Opel Rocks-e is simply different: not a large car that requires a lot of traffic space in the city centers. Instead: an emission-free, compact city electric car with a stylish design for two people. And best of all: Since the 2,41 meter short, 1,39 meter (without exterior mirrors) slim and (including traction battery) 471 kilogram light Opel Rocks-e is officially classified as a light vehicle, young people aged 15 and over with an AM driving license are allowed to drive it¹ travel. A corresponding amendment came into force in 2021, so that this regulation now applies nationwide. The legislator thus supports the mobility needs of young people - especially for the way to school or apprenticeship. The new Opel Rocks-e is perfect for this job.

The smart entry-level electric vehicle offers a range of up to 75 kilometers according to WLTP²that can be covered at speeds of up to 45 km / h. This makes the new Opel ideal for everyday city traffic - not only for young people, but also for commuters who travel to work emission-free and do not want to spend long looking for a parking space. The compact dimensions make the Rocks-e the ideal zero-emission vehicle for the city. On its 14-inch wheels and with a turning circle of just 7,20 meters, it can be steered extremely easily through tight bends or into small parking spaces.

The 5,5 kWh battery in the Opel Rocks-e can be fully recharged in around 3,5 hours using any normal household socket. The associated three-meter-long charging cable is permanently housed in the SUM and is simply pulled out of the passenger door when required. Opel offers an adapter for charging at a public charging station.

SUM with style: doors opening in opposite directions and Opel Vizor

The Rocks-e proudly bears the new face of the Opel Vizor brand, complete with LED headlights and indicators. The clear and bold design is emphasized by the identical doors on both sides. The passenger door swings forward as usual, but the driver's door opens in the opposite direction to the rear - stylish and clever at the same time. Accordingly, there are also some identical parts at the front and rear.

Opel-typical clear lines also in the interior: the two seats are offset next to each other so that the front passenger has comfortable legroom and the driver can move his seat over a large adjustment range. The headroom is also generous for people over 1,90 meters. The term “one size fits all” therefore applies to the Rocks-e. In addition, despite its compact dimensions, the new Rocks-e offers a storage volume of up to 63 liters in the passenger footwell for taking various items with you - and a smart hook for the shopping bag in XXL.

The cockpit is clear, modern and focused on the essentials. The display shows the speed, driving mode (Driver, Nneutral, Reverse), the state of charge of the battery and the remaining range. Practical details such as the smartphone holder located centrally on the center console also make the Opel Rocks-e a networked SUM. Thanks to the compact dimensions and large windows, Opel Rocks-e drivers always have the best all-round view. The standard panoramic glass roof ensures a light, pleasant atmosphere in the interior, which is unusual for a vehicle in this price category. The new City Stromer is available in three equipment lines to match the overall appearance: as Opel Rocks-e, Opel Rocks-e Klub and Opel Rocks-e TeKno.

Opel ADAM Rocks and KARL Rocks as role models

The name Rocks has a long tradition with the German manufacturer. Already in the more recent past the brand drove with the Opel ADAM Rocks and the Opel KARL Rocks Minis with a very special flair - individually equipped, casually styled with off-road applications and thus perfectly prepared for daily journeys through the urban jungle. The new Opel Rocks-e has been developed even more consistently for use in urban areas. Fully electric and therefore extra-quiet and emission-free on the road, the newcomer protects the surroundings and the environment.
