Colonel Mark II: a Tesla Model 3 with a combustion engine!

Usually they are Teslas Zero emission vehicles. Equipped with an XXL battery, it only works purely electrically, but at the same time the battery also provides a huge CO2 backpack that every Tesla has to carry around with them. And now it's supposed to be a Combustion engines judge? In In Lustenau (Austria) people have thought about how an electric car can be made more suitable for everyday use and even more climate-friendly. And it became clear that you don't necessarily need large batteries for a long range. In order to optimize the ecological balance, the weight, the efficiency and above all the costs, the huge battery is supposed to verschwunden. The Austrian company Obrist shows with the Zero Vibration Generator (ZVG)how this is all supposed to work. The ZVG is a gasoline engine that has been implanted in a Tesla Model 3. In this way, the Stromer should become significantly more environmentally friendly.

100 kW / 136 PS electric motor in the rear

One comes to the ZVG significantly reduced battery and with that the "HyperHybrid" called Stromer even have a particularly long range. Nevertheless, according to Obrist, it should be air-conditioned neutral stay. But what exactly is the ZVG? This is kind of a serial hybrid drive. A provides for propulsion 100 kW / 136 hp electric motor in the rear of the Model 3, which receives power from a 17,3 kWh traction battery. It is much smaller than the 52 kWh or 82 kWh battery used by Tesla. And where the so-called Frunk actually sits (front trunk), Obrist has an encapsulated One-liter two-cylinder gasoline engine Installed. He is physical though not connected to the drive, but it drives a generator, which in turn supplies the electricity for the electric drive. And thanks to the leveling compound and the encapsulation, it should not even be audible to the occupants.

30 liter tank in the rear

The combustion engine gets fuel from one 30 liter tank in the rear, and so particularly long tours should be possible. He only needs fuel between 2,5 and 4,5 liters per 100 kilometers. And apart from a 40 kW generator for gasoline operation, Obrist also has a 45 kW counterpart for e-fuels such as methanol at the start. The eco-fuel required could be produced in a climate-neutral manner using hydrogen. In the end, the climate balance would also be neutral. According to Obrist, the hybrid drive system including the combustion unit even meets the limit values of the Euro-7 emissions standard. With such a conversion, the CO2 backpack from the electric drive of the Tesla Model 3 would be thanks Rightsizing battery turn out much smaller. Even sinks the vehicle weight and the ZVG (Zero Vibration Generator) solution would even be significantly cheaper due to the smaller battery. A corresponding series vehicle should be in the range of a conventional gasoline engine with regard to the acquisition. It is currently unclear whether series production will start.

Don't worry, of course that was far from being the case when it came to auto / auto tuning. Our magazine still has tens of thousands other tuning reports in stock. Do you want to see them all?
