As a European you can think about it how you want, but the two giant off-roaders embody the American way of life like hardly any other automobile on this side of a pickup. And since tuning and subsequent refinements of the vehicle are also very popular in the USA, Chevrolet has now put together an OEM package with tuning parts for both models, which is intended to appeal to sporty drivers. Thus, the Chevrolet brand hopes to gain a decisive advantage over its competitors called Ford and Dodge, who have not yet offered the measures.

Modifications to the exterior and engine

For example, an LPO-level intercooler is available, which is available with both the 5,3-liter V8 gasoline engine and the 6,2-liter V8 gasoline engine, both of which are not turbocharged. Chevrolet reports that this increases the air supply by 13 and 17 percent, respectively, resulting in higher performance. A dry filter is included, which is $ 625 excluding installation costs. Owners of the performance package can also look forward to an exhaust system without a catalytic converter, with either one or two tailpipes, which costs an additional 1.645 or 2.145 dollars. As a result, at least 4 hp and 3 Newton meters of power or torque are gained and of course a better sound. As standard, the 5,3-liter V8 naturally aspirated petrol engine has 355 hp and 522 Newton meters of maximum torque, while the 6,2-liter naturally aspirated V8 has 420 hp and a hefty 624 Newton meters. Despite the modifications to the drivetrain, Chevrolet does not yet offer a compressor kit for the engines, with which one could get significantly more power from the vehicle.

On the other hand, in our opinion, it is also superfluous to give the Tahoe or Suburban even more power and torque, since the vehicle cannot be driven on the highway anyway, because the chassis, center of gravity and body shape are simply not designed for this are. The exterior, on the other hand, is enhanced by perfectly color-coordinated brake calipers, while a six-piston racing brake system is supposed to ensure decent deceleration values. Of course, the fun also costs a lot of money, because the brake system is not available for less than $ 2.895, while the colored brake calipers cost another $ 575.

Who will buy the performance package?

Especially drivers who want to be sporty with their large SUV, which above all offers space and are there to signal to others that they have somehow made it, will buy the performance package. It is rather unsuitable for autoposers, as it mainly increases the performance and offers no noticeable optical modifications, except for the color-matched brake system. Above all, however, the package is suitable for drivers who want to brag about performance data and torque to their friends or at the regulars' table in order to make a powerful impression on their friends, who may have a less powerful vehicle in the garage. Another argument in favor of the package would be the significantly improved sound of the V8 engines, which could result from this intervention, but we cannot comment on that as we have not yet been able to find any sound samples.
