800 PS Monster - 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass as a restomod!

Did you know that the Oldsmobile Cutlass was basically built for 32 years? It was an upper middle class car and came on the market in spring 1967. Until mid-1981, the Oldsmobile was manufactured under the patronage of General Motors. At the beginning only as a better equipped version of the Oldsmobile F-85, later, from 1972, as a complete replacement for the F-85. But then it was over at some point. But at the beginning of 1997 the name was changed to the successor of the Ciera utilized. However, in a completely different vehicle class. In the lower middle class until the end of 1999. Of the total of six generations built, the third was the best in terms of appearance. At least that's how we feel.

And just such a third generation copy is this black beast. And the conversion of the 73 Cutlass is impressively documented in the 8-minute long video embedded below. The video does not contain any narrative, but it documents the structure of the project with a cool slide show and lots of pictures. And it's not just a slide show. The coupe equipped with a stately 800 PS strong V8 can be heard at the end of the article with an impressive soundscape and a small walkaround also takes place. And the significantly modified GM LSA-V8 is of course the absolute highlight of the conversion. It originally comes from a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (2012 to 2015) and was also used in the Cadillac CTS-V (2008 to 2013) as a turbocharged version with a displacement of 6,2 liters and a compressor. The engine was also known as the "Crate engine“Offered with the performance of 564 PS & 747 Nm torque known from the aforementioned CTS-V.

This LSA from the Oldsmobile Cutlass was still made by Schwartz Performance from Woodstock in Illinois (who also built the entire vehicle) pushed to almost 800 hp by means of nitro injection and other changes. The engine is coupled to a Tremec T56 Magnum gearbox and the rest of the drive train consists of a special steel drive shaft, a Moser 9-inch rear, and a TrueTrac differential and a 3,70 ratio are installed. And Schwartz Performance has also equipped the Oldsmobile Cutlass with the in-house G-Machine chassis.

Incidentally, when it came to the chassis, the decision was made in favor of the manufacturer Ridetech, which supplied an adjustable HQ coilover kit. And so that the heavily motorized version of the Oldsmobile Cutlass can be braked again in a species-appropriate manner, an appropriate braking system was of course required. The choice here was a system from BAER that, with 14-inch (approx. 36 cm) brake discs and 6-piston brake calipers, ensures optimum deceleration. The braking system is hidden behind filigree Forgeline GT3C rims with a diameter of 18 × 9 inches at the front and 18 × 10,5 inches at the rear.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires

Incidentally, the wheelset is equipped with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires all around. The fully restored body, reduced to the essentials, without a front apron has been sheathed in a glossy black, with the front now largely consisting of glass fiber. And of course the cabin is completely overhauled and restored. There was a noble handcrafted leather interior in black, a 3-spoke aluminum sports steering wheel and subtle wooden applications as well as many small details such as a changed gear lever, modern instruments and much more. The Exot with 73-77 GM A body is already an absolute exotic in series production, but as a restomod project with modern technology it is definitely an absolute one-off. And a pretty successful one at that! If we receive timely information on further changes, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed if you simply use ours Feed subscribe to.
