The famous three letters "GSe" make a return. Just a few days ago, Opel announced that GSe (Grand Sport electric) will be available for the future new sub-brand dynamic, electrified models will stand with the flash. Now Opel shows the first pictures of the new GSe models – the new Opel Astra GSe and the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe. The state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid variants of the compact-class station wagon and five-door offer the optimal balance of driving comfort and performance-oriented handling - with responsibility.

Astra & Astra Sports Tourer GSe

“The new Astra GSe and the new Astra Sports Tourer GSe are perfect for launching and bringing our new sporty sub-brand to life. At the same time, with these models, we are consistently pursuing our strategy of becoming a fully electric brand in Europe by 2028,” says Opel CEO Florian Huettl.

Agility, sportiness and, above all, a great deal of driving pleasure: this is ensured in the new Astra GSe and in the Astra Sports Tourer GSe with a system output of 165 kW/225 hp and a maximum torque of a powerful 360 Newton metres. The newcomers are setting standards in their class. This is how you achieve the best values when starting from a standing start, when accelerating and at top speed.

Furthermore, the newcomers set the new standard for the suspension in terms of integration and feedback to the driver. In the Astra comparison, the GSe models are designed to be even more agile and precise than the previously successfully introduced variants. Steering, suspension and brakes respond immediately and directly to any command from the driver. A special chassis lowered by 10 millimeters, which Opel installs in the new Astra GSe models, contributes to the performance-oriented driving characteristics. Compared to the immediate competitors, the vehicles offer exceptional stability and directional stability in corners, when braking and - like every Opel - at high speeds on the motorway.

The steering is GSe-specifically sporty

The steering is sporty tuned specifically for the GSe. The special springs and oil pressure shock absorbers of the front and rear wheel suspension, in turn, enable not only dynamic but also comfortable driving. This is ensured by KONI's so-called FSD technology (Frequency Selective Damping): The dampers align the required damping force with the movement frequency of the vehicle. In this way, different damping characteristics can be achieved for gliding at high frequencies and for a sporty, ambitious driving style with more direct road contact at low frequencies. This is exactly what the ESP in the GSe models is set for: the electronic stability program intervenes later, so that GSe drivers can drive even more dynamically.

Pure sportiness: bold, clear Astra design with GSe styling highlights

With its bold and clear styling, the new Astra generation is a design statement from the brand. Characteristic GSe highlights now give the Astra an even more impressive appearance. The ones from the all-electric Manta GSe Inspired 18-inch alloy wheels as well as the GSe-specific front end and the GSe lettering on the tailgate show at first glance what the new Astra GSe is made of. The same applies to the interior: The driver and front passenger can make themselves comfortable on ergonomic, AGR-certified GSe performance seats with Alcantara equipment. The sporty seats are reserved exclusively for the GSe models and continue Opel's many years of experience in the development of ergonomic seats, which the manufacturer makes affordable for all vehicle classes.

While the abbreviation "GSe" used to stand for "Grand Sport Injection", as in the case of the Opel Commodore GS/E and the Opel Monza GSE, it is now Opel's new sporty sub-brand and means "Grand Sport electric". The Opel GSe models combine sporty driving fun with the option of locally emission-free driving - and at the same time redefine performance in line with the spirit of the times.
