With the 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit Porsche has set a new record for street-legal series sports cars on the 20,8-kilometer Nürburgring-Nordschleife. In the best time of 14: 6 minutes achieved on June 43,300th in the presence of a notary, Porsche development driver Lars Kern drove the 515 kW (700 PS) 911 GT2 RS. The new performance kit was developed in close cooperation between the Porsche engineers in Weissach and the Nordschleife specialists from Manthey in Meuspath. The Porsche Tequipment components optimized for circuit use are sold through the Porsche Centers.

Beat the previous record for production vehicles by 4,747 seconds

The declared goal was to beat the current record for road vehicles of 6: 48,047 seconds. Lars Kern achieved this with flying colors at the wheel of the 911 GT2 RS. On road-approved Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, Kern beat the previous record by 4,747 seconds. He achieved an average speed of 185,87 km / h. "Our GT customers often use their vehicles on circuits, for example on track days," says Frank-Steffen Walliser, head of the 911 and 718 series Makes the 911 GT2 RS even more powerful. ”Lars Kern succeeded in setting the record despite the midsummer conditions and 41 degrees asphalt temperature. “With the Manthey Performance Kit, the 911 GT2 RS literally sticks to the track - especially in fast corners you almost feel like you are in a racing car. It is really breathtaking how the car puts its 700 hp on the road, how extremely well it brakes and always remains easy to control, ”says Lars Kern.

Precisely matched components

The Manthey Performance Kit from Porsche Tequipment consists of chassis, aerodynamics and brake components specially developed for the 911 GT2 RS, as well as the lightweight magnesium wheels already included in the Weissach package. “The individual components of the performance kit are precisely matched to one another. They only develop their full effect when they are installed together. That is why we are currently only offering the kit as a whole. Individual offers are currently being examined, ”says Alexander Fabig, Head of Customization and Classic at Porsche AG.

The aerodynamic components are recognizable at first glance. Additional flaps on the front apron in combination with a carbon underbody and additional air control elements in the area of the front wheels increase downforce on the front axle. At 200 km / h, the downforce increases from 49 to 70 kilograms, and on the rear axle at the same speed from 93 to 200 kilograms. This is made possible by the use of a new rear wing, a modified diffuser and aerodiscs on the rear wheels. “We are proud that Lars Kern was able to improve the lap time of the 911 GT2 RS in such a way thanks to the performance kit that we were able to develop together with Porsche, which has been optimized in many respects,” says Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director of Manthey-Racing GmbH.

The coilover kit, optimized for circuit use, benefits from Porsche and Manthey's many years of motorsport experience. The shock absorbers on the front axle can be adjusted three times without tools, and on the rear axle even four times. Special racing brake pads for the PCCB ceramic brake system reduce fading and improve responsiveness and controllability. Brake lines with steel sheathing ensure even more direct pedal feedback. The magnesium wheel set with a diameter of 20 inches on the front axle and 21 inches on the rear axle offers a weight advantage of 11,4 kilograms and is available in brilliant silver, black, aurum, white gold metallic and platinum.

An additional water tank for spray cooling the charge air cooler increases the series volume by around nine liters and thus increases the range between refills. “With the newly developed parts, we have further optimized an extremely good car. The 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit is perfectly tailored to the needs of those customers who like to be on the racetrack and especially on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The time of 6: 43,300 minutes on the full lap, which corresponds to 6: 38,835 minutes on the short version that was used earlier, is a real statement, ”explains Andreas Preuninger, Head of GT Cars.

Manthey performance kit from Porsche Tequipment

The Manthey Performance Kit from Porsche Tequipment can now be ordered for customers in Europe in the Porsche Centers. The offer in other markets will follow gradually. In addition, it is now also possible to take out a Porsche Approved Guarantee for all Porsche 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit.
