New Nürburgring record for the Porsche Taycan

Never before has a standard electric car been faster on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring: Porsche development driver Lars Kern needed 7:33 minutes for one lap in a Porsche Taycan Turbo S. The sports sedan was equipped with the new performance kit and the special equipment Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and was unchanged from the standard version apart from the mandatory roll cage and racing bucket seats. The vehicle weight corresponded to that of the production car. A notary who was present certified the new best value on the 20,8-kilometre circuit in the Eifel, and TÜV Rheinland certified the record-breaking car's production condition.

The performance kit includes 21-inch RS Spyder design wheels with street-legal Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tires, which are now also available for the Taycan. The rubber compound is similar to that of racing tires. Another component of the performance kit is a software update of the Porsche 4D-Chassis Control that is tailored to the sports tires. This analyzes and synchronizes all chassis systems in the Taycan in real time. "In the past, only thoroughbred super sports cars managed to finish in the range of 7:33 minutes," says Kern. “Thanks to the new performance kit I was able to push more; at the same time, the car was even more precise and agile to drive.”

The performance kit is sold by Porsche Tequipment. It is initially only available in Germany and exclusively for the Taycan Turbo S sports sedan, model year 2023. These vehicles have been in production since the end of July 2022. The performance kit itself should be available by the end of the year. Retrofitting after the first delivery in the Porsche workshops is planned in Zuffenhausen. The transports to and from the headquarters are included, as well as individual acceptance and approval of the Taycan. The price for the performance kit is 13.377,32 euros including 19 percent VAT. The Taycan's factory warranty remains fully intact.

The sports tire is primarily designed for driving on circuits. Buyers can therefore switch back to standard tires at any time. In this case it is not necessary to reinstall the original chassis software. "We are very pleased that the Nürburgring record for electric cars now lies with Porsche again,” says Kevin Giek, head of the Taycan series. “The lap time not only shows how much potential there is in our new performance kit. It also once again confirms the sporty genes of the Taycan. The high system performance of the Turbo S of up to 460 kW (625 hp) was one of the key success factors. With activated Launch Control, a maximum of 560 kW (761 hp) can be called up from a standing start. Photo credit: Porsche
