What do you do when the S65B40 high-revving V8 in an M3 gives up the ghost? You look for a new one on the parts market and install it again! Not so Jonathan and his father Vaash Govender. They used the rather unfortunate event to get one of the most spectacular builds of the past few weeks off the ground. Namely an E93 M3 convertible with a Maserati engine and Pandem widebody kit. And YouTuber Cars.co.za were allowed to drive the M3 with a Ferrari engine (Ferrari in turn supplies the engine for Maserati) drive as a unique miracle. And the conversion even has a classic manual transmission. Cars.co.za spent some time with the vehicle and its owner and in the conversation it was mentioned that the M3 "the world's only M3 with a Ferrari engine“Is. If that's true? We are not exactly sure!

V8 from a Maserati GranTurismo

But the V8 vacuum cleaner hidden under the bonnet from a Maserati GranTurismo is definitely something very special. Even if you can unfortunately no longer enjoy the infernal soundscape unadorned. Because the retractable metal roof of the E93 Cabriolet has been welded in place for more structural rigidity. As already mentioned, the body received an elaborate Pandem widebody kit from Japan as part of the conversion. The kit includes a new front apron that is significantly wider at the sides Splitter, there were flared fenders front and rear, a large one Ducktail spoiler lip and a rear apron on both sides is also installed. There were also mighty 19 mm slippers for the rear axle for the new 325 inch aluminum rims in glossy black and there are still huge 295 mm rollers at the front. The engine is attached to a special single-flow sports exhaust (the M3 has a right / left system installed ex works) and as already mentioned, the gear selection is made using a Maserati pressure plate and six-speed manual transmission.

a conversion to turbo is planned

The power currently ends in 220 KW “on the bike” and a maximum of 250 KW should be possible using software calibration. That translates to around 340 hp, which is not much by modern standards. Even the standard V8 of the M3 delivered significantly more with 420 hp. In return, the acoustic quality of the Ferrari V8 is beyond any doubt. At most the V10 engine from the E60 M5 / E61 M6 comes in. Incidentally, the tuning team uses air suspension all round for the chassis and the E93 will soon have one Individual throttle system received and if everything works even a conversion to turbo. With turbo power, the Frankenstein-BMW should then easily achieve 500 hp. Perhaps even more, depending on the level of expansion. We are excited! If we receive more information in a timely manner, there will of course be an update for this report. You will be informed of this if you simply use ours Feed subscribe to.
