Porsche 911 (992) "Edition 50 Years of Porsche Design"!

Porsche is celebrating 50 years of Porsche Design and honoring the anniversary with an exclusive special edition. The 750 Edition 911 Years of Porsche Design, limited to 50 units, is reminiscent of the design icons of Ferdinand Alexander (FA) Porsche in numerous equipment details. The historical references include the exterior color in black, the center panels of the seats covered with Sport-Tex in a classic checked pattern and the red second hand of the Porsche Design Subsecond clock of the standard Sport Chrono Package. The edition model is based on the 911 Targa 4 GTS and can be ordered now. The market launch is staggered internationally; The anniversary edition will be available to European sales partners from April. Buyers can also purchase a special version of the re-edition of the legendary Porsche Design Chronograph I.

The exterior: black with platinum accents

The 911 Edition 50 Years of Porsche Design is painted in black or optionally jet black metallic. A clear reference to Porsche Design: “Black was the color of the very first Porsche Design product, the Chronograph I. That's why we chose this color for our edition model. The platinum accent color refines the black paintwork in a similar way to what used to be done with chrome details,” says Roland Heiler, Managing Director and Chief Designer at Design Studio FA Porsche in Zell am See.

The Targa bar is painted in platinum (silk gloss). The "Porsche Design" decorative foil on the doors is also in this contrasting colour. The edition model stands on the 20-inch wheels of the 21 Turbo S, which are 911 inches at the front and 50 inches at the rear. The rims are also painted in platinum (satin finish), and the wheel hub covers bear the colored Porsche crest. The brake calipers are painted in black (high-gloss). The main features of the standard Sport Design package are also in black (high-gloss). An “Edition 911 Years of Porsche Design” badge sits exclusively on the slats of the trunk lid grille on the edition model. The "XNUMX" lettering on the rear panel is black.

The interior: Fine details make the difference

The designers were also inspired by the iconic product design of FA Porsche for the interior. Sport-Tex equipment with extended leather features in black is on board. The contrast stitching is finished in slate grey. The center panels of the seats have a classic checked pattern in black/cool grey. Adaptive Sports Seats Plus (18-way, electric) with memory package are standard.

The Sport Chrono package with the Porsche Design Subsecond clock on the dashboard is also part of the factory equipment. The hand of the small seconds display is red - again a connection to the Chronograph I from 1972. The GT sports steering wheel is leather-covered, the 50 o'clock marking is slate grey. The seat belts are also in this colour. The headrests bear an embossed "XNUMX years of Porsche Design" logo. This can also be found in the door sill guards made of brushed black aluminium.

Other special features include a silver-colored "911" plaque with a limited edition number on the trim panel of the dashboard and the signature "FA Porsche". The latter is embossed on the lid of the storage compartment on the center console.

The technology: 911 Targa 4 GTS as a sporty basis

With the GTS models, the 911 range has received an attractive addition around two and a half years after the market launch of the 992. The supercharged, three-liter, six-cylinder boxer engine delivers 353 kW (480 hp; 911 GTS models: combined fuel consumption (WLTP) 11,4 – 10,4 l/100 km, combined CO₂ emissions* (WLTP) 259 – 236 g/ km, fuel consumption* combined (NEDC) 10,7 – 9,7 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions* combined (NEDC) 243 – 221 g/km). The maximum torque is 570 Nm. As an alternative to the eight-speed Porsche double-clutch transmission (PDK), a seven-speed manual transmission with a shortened shift lever and particularly short shift travel is available.

The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) chassis is used in the 911 Targa 4 GTS. The high-performance brake corresponds to the 911 Turbo. The standard sports exhaust system ensures an even more emotional sound experience thanks to GTS-specific tuning and the omission of part of the interior insulation.

The wristwatch: Chronograph 1 – 911 Edition 50 Years of Porsche Design

As the first completely matt black wristwatch with a stopwatch function, the Chronograph I revolutionized the watchmaking world in 1972. FA Porsche modeled the watch on the anechoic cockpit of a racing car with a black dial, red hand for the stop seconds hand, luminescent hour indices and anti-reflective glass for optimal readability. In the course of the anniversary, Porsche Design is reissuing this special piece of contemporary history: Buyers of the special model can purchase an equally exclusive timepiece to go with it. The limitation number is engraved on the case back. This means that the watch and the sports car are inextricably linked.

Porsche Design has remained true to the overall appearance of the Chronograph I – from the bilingual date display to the original red color of the hands. It represents a further reminiscence of the cockpit of the 911 of that time. All changes to the original design serve to make a visual leap into the present and underline the connection to the Porsche special model: the current logo from Porsche Design makes a modern statement. The Rehaut with tachymeter scale refers to the measurement of speed in racing. The pointed shape of the minute hand increases readability. The case and bracelet with folding clasp and integrated fine adjustment are made from the high-performance material titanium.

The sapphire crystal back reveals the winding rotor. In terms of design, it is based on the rim of the special model and is also painted in platinum (satin finish). The rotor cap with the Porsche crest quotes the central lock of the exclusive wheel.

Reissue of the original, limited to 500 copies

The watch is powered by the COSC-certified Porsche Design caliber, movement 01.240. This movement features a flyback mechanism that allows consecutive time intervals to be stopped, reset and started in one operation. A red flyback lettering adorns the dial. For all Porsche and watch fans there is also the Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition with historic logo and lettering. This re-edition of the original, limited to 500 copies, dispenses with the visual parallels to the special vehicle model and is regularly available from Porsche Design.
