Gijs van Lennep is one of the most legendary drivers in Dutch racing history and has always been closely associated with Porsche. Now Porsche Nederland is celebrating this national icon with a unique 911 Carrera S that bears the fingerprint of the former driver. At 78 years of age, Gijs van Lennep can look back on an unparalleled and varied career. The man who once competed in a VW Beetle at Circuit Park Zandvoort was one of the best drivers in the world on many national and international racetracks: he won the Le Mans 24-hour race twice, scored points in Formula 1, won the European Formula 5000 Championship and won the last Targa Florio, the notorious road race in Sicily. So it was hardly surprising that in 1999 van Lennep was named the “best Dutch racing driver of the 20th century”.

Porsche runs like a red thread through the success story of the driver from Blaricum. He has already sat in many of the brand's famous racing cars, including the Carrera 6, with which he made his international breakthrough in 1966, and the classic 911, which he drove in numerous touring car races. At a time when car racing was a dangerous pastime, van Lennep was at the wheel of the 908/02, as well as the Carrera RSR Turbo and the 936. Of course, the 917 also played a central role in its career: no one else drove this iconic racing car in more races than Gijs van Lennep. Today Porsche Nederland is delighted to be able to celebrate both van Lennep's extraordinary talent and his enormous contribution to Dutch motorsport with a one-of-a-kind Porsche 911 Carrera S.

This extraordinary one-off was actually supposed to be unveiled during the 10th edition of the “Gijs van Lennep Legend” in August. This year's anniversary of the race, in which rally and touring car drivers compete against each other to raise money for charity, had to be postponed to August 19, 22 due to the COVID-2021 pandemic. Porsche ambassador van Lennep is already looking forward to taking part in this event with “his” 911 Carrera S. "In 2021 I will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of my victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Back then, I set a distance record in a 917 that remained unbroken until 2010. For me it is very special that Porsche Nederland honors me with this unique 911. There is hardly a more personal honor than a vehicle with your own fingerprint."

Unique, exclusive design

The most distinctive feature of this particular 911 is Gijs van Lennep's fingerprint on the bonnet. It was applied using an innovative direct printing process developed by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, with which images of the highest quality can be applied to painted bodywork. This completely new painting technique works similarly to an inkjet printer.

With the printhead, paint can be applied to three-dimensional surfaces without "overspray". The Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur can also perfectly reproduce complex shapes such as fingerprints. This feature has been available as an option since this year.

The color lava orange is also a real eye-catcher and a nod to van Lennep's time as a Porsche racing driver in Racing Team Holland, in which he worked with prominent drivers such as Ben Pon, Rob Slotemaker, Henk van Zalinge and Carel Godin de Beaufort for plenty Caused a sensation. Other special features of the car are exclusive taillights, a lightweight carbon roof and an eye-catching 911 Turbo SportDesign package in high-gloss black with an Aerokit rear wing.

Contrasting decorative seams in lava orange and carbon elements round off the interior. This "Gijs van Lennep" also impresses with numerous details in Race-Tex, a high-quality microfiber material that is partly made from recycled polyester fibers.
