50 years after the death of the Mexican racing driver Pedro Rodríguez, Porsche presents the 911 Turbo S “One of a Kind”. The vehicle is to be auctioned for a good cause. Pedro Rodríguez is without a doubt the most successful Mexican driver of all time. He won two Formula 1 Grands Prix and achieved one victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and four successes at the 24 Hours of Daytona. He was also involved in a total of eleven brand world championship titles (eight times in the Porsche 917 hatchback in the legendary design of Gulf Oil, sponsor of the John Wyre Porsche team in two seasons). In 1970 and 1971 Rodríguez helped Porsche take first place in the brand world championship, now known as the endurance world championship.
Porsche 911 Turbo S "One of a Kind"
Porsche Latin America and Porsche México have now honored Rodríguez, who lost his life exactly 50 years ago at the Norisring in Nuremberg, with a special model. They commissioned the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur with the development of a globally unique vehicle, the Porsche 911 Turbo S "One of a Kind" Pedro Rodríguez, which has now been unveiled at the Sportscar Together Day in the Centro de Alto Rendimiento Pegaso in Mexico.
"No other driver from Latin America has brought Porsche as many successes and as much joy as Pedro Rodríguez," emphasized George Wills, President and CEO of Porsche Latin America. "With this globally unique vehicle, we would like to pay tribute to a unique and irreplaceable driver, an idol in our history and a legend that lives on."
In his honor, Porsche created a car with unmistakable (design) features. "This vehicle comes up with unique details that you will not find on any other car in the world," explains Camilo San Martin, Managing Director of Porsche México. “The configuration with this design and the equipment features was blocked both in the Porsche configurator and in the production system. So this vehicle cannot really exist a second time. "
A Porsche that is unique in the world
The exterior of the Porsche 911 Turbo S "One of a Kind" Pedro Rodríguez involuntarily reminds one of the 917 short tail: the body is painted in Gulf blue with an orange stripe - the same colors in which the racing car was decorated with the Rodríguez Porsche In 1970 and 1971 he helped win the world championship. The wheels specially designed for this car are characterized by their high-gloss black finish and an aluminum cap. On the doors is the characteristic black number 2 in a white circle, just like on the 917 hatchback with which the Mexican won the Daytona 1970-hour race in 1971 and 24 and the Monza 1971 km race in 1.000.
Another distinctive feature is the badge on the B-pillar, which outlines the 917 hatchback in the colors of the Mexican flag and contains the name and signature of Pedro Rodríguez. This detail can also be found on the carbon parts on the lower door frames, where it lights up when the doors are opened. Furthermore, the names of the eight races that Pedro Rodríguez won with the 917 short tail were engraved below the rear spoiler.
The interior of the Porsche 911 Turbo S “One of a Kind” Pedro Rodríguez is completely upholstered in graphite blue leather. Orange stitching and other details such as the engraved outline of the 917 on the headrests of the front seats and the autograph of Pedro Rodríguez on the center armrest and the carbon fiber cover of the dashboard ensure a high recognition value.
Even the car key was given an individual design: It shows the autograph of the two-time long-distance world champion and is also in the characteristic Gulf blue of the vehicle. As an extraordinary additional equipment, the car also offers a set of bags that fits perfectly in the trunk and is made entirely of graphite blue leather with orange stitching and details. The Porsche 911 Turbo S "One of a Kind" Pedro Rodríguez will be auctioned this year. The proceeds go to various charitable causes.
