1989 Porsche 944 Turbo with NOS kit and motorsport optics!

After the entry-level models 914 and 924, Porsche presented the somewhat more upscale and also more expensive 80 in the 944s, which however never really shook off the image of the “people's Porsche”. He was too much in the shadow of the 911, which at the time cannibalized every success of the other Porsche series. Even racing versions of the 944 did not bring the hoped-for success, because it felt too close to a VW to be as a real Porsche to be noticed. Four-cylinder engines were not accepted in Porsche driver circles, and the front engine and the compact dimensions also prevented higher sales at the time. He just didn't have the street presence and overtaking prestige of a nine-eleven. In addition, with the 944, Porsche left the usual design paths to join the automotive trends of the time, as can be seen from the pop-up headlights. The design experiments in particular, which went terribly wrong, ensured that the Zuffenhausen-based company almost had to file for bankruptcy, and Mercedes-Benz was about to take over the sports car manufacturer!

Underrated racer with qualities!

Today we would like to introduce you to a leftover from what is probably the saddest era of Porsche. Namely a 944 Turbo, which is doing its rounds in the USA, and currently on Bring a trailer is looking for a new owner. The gray one Painting ensures that the vehicle looks a bit inconspicuous, but that was also the tuner's strategy. Just one front spoiler made of carbon is located on the discreetly kept vehicle.

For a sportier driving behavior, the 944 has an adjustable coilover from Ground Control, and in favor of optics were 18 inches tall alloy wheels with a glossy black finish and multi-spoke look by ForgeLine installed on the vehicle. Behind the wheels are painted yellow calipersthat originally did their job in a Porsche 993 Turbo. They ensure that the racer comes to a safe stop in all situations. A Sports exhaust system installed by Fabspeed Motorsport, which the exhaust fumes over a thick Tailpipe im JDM style, which is attached on the left side blows out.

There are also dynamic looking ones Lettering on vehicles that carry both “Turbo” and “Porsche”. We are sure that the 944 will feel right at home on the racetrack and the drag strip thanks to various modifications, which we will go into in more detail.

In the interior you can feel the flair of the 80s!

From today's point of view, the dashboard looks unkind, sober and spartan, but it was common in the 80s to design a cockpit like this. Sports Seats with two-tone leather, which was kept in black and white, as well as a large one Roll cage, which makes the rear jump seats unusable, give the underrated Stuttgart a racer atmosphere. And finally there is a very special accessory that is hidden almost inconspicuously in the trunk! We're talking about one here NOS kit, i.e. a nitrous oxide set that briefly helps the engine to achieve significantly more power.

Four-cylinder turbo with modifications

Due to the complex changes to the drive train, we unfortunately do not know how much displacement the unit will have after tuning. The highlight is probably that nitrous oxide enginewhich ensures that the 944 can shine with an insane performance, but would mercilessly fail the TÜV test in Germany if the kit "would be connected". The exact performance data are not known to us, but the old one was used Five-speed manual through a manual replaced with six gears from a Porsche 968 in order to better cope with the increased performance. The transaxle design remained, i.e. gearbox at the front, drive at the rear, and the power is transferred to the rear axle.
