Record time: Porsche Cayenne Performance on the Nordschleife!

Stuttgart / Nürburg. The new performance model of the Cayenne series impressively demonstrated its driving dynamics potential shortly before its market launch: test driver Lars Kern lapped the 20,832-kilometer-long Nürburgring-Nordschleife with a still slightly camouflaged production vehicle in 7: 38,9 minutes. This time, certified by a notary, is the new record in the official ranking of Nürburgring GmbH in the category “SUVs, off-road vehicles, vans, pick-ups”.

Porsche Cayenne Performance

“Even on the first few meters on the Nordschleife with this Cayenne, you tend to turn around. Just to make sure you're actually sitting in a spacious SUV. High steering precision and stoic calm on the rear axle - that already gives you a lot of confidence in the Hatzenbach area, ”says Lars Kern, describing his record drive. The test driver had extensively accompanied the development of the new car.

“In the fast corners, such as between Hoher Acht and Eiskurve, the direction changes work very quickly. The vehicle does not rock and has no tendency to understeer. Even in this technical area, the Cayenne is an absolute driver's car that is easy to control, ”says Kern. “The bikes usually leave the asphalt at the two jumps at Pflanzgarten I and II. In the Cayenne, on the other hand, these passages feel smooth and calm. The downstroke is enormous, the structure remains full and controllable. The drive train also makes a confident impression. It delivers performance in every situation, and the gear changes are perfect. "

Top athlete and typical Cayenne all-rounder

Record time: Porsche Cayenne Performance on the Nordschleife!

“This Cayenne model is a top athlete. During development, we focused on exceptional on-road performance. Our record Cayenne is based on the current Cayenne Turbo Coupé, but has been designed even more consistently for maximum longitudinal and transverse dynamics, ”says Series Manager Stefan Weckbach. “The record time on the Nordschleife underpins the dynamic driving capabilities of our new performance SUV. In addition, it is typical Cayenne a real all-rounder and offers a high level of driving comfort and everyday use. "

Lars Kern tackled the fast Nordschleife lap on June 14, 2021 at 11:31 a.m. with a summery 23 degrees Celsius outside and 46 degrees Celsius asphalt temperature and crossed the finish line 7: 38,925 minutes later. To protect the driver, the record Cayenne was equipped with a racing seat and a safety cage. A notary confirmed the series condition and the series weight of the still slightly camouflaged SUV, which will celebrate its world premiere shortly. The 22-inch Pirelli P Zero Corsa performance tire used in the record run was specially developed for the new Cayenne model and will be fitted as standard.
