A Porsche Cayman still suffers from the fact that it is often ridiculed by Porsche fans and not viewed as a real Porsche. Significantly cheaper and equipped with a mid-engine, it has a very difficult position compared to its big brother, the 911, although it is significantly more affordable and also more suitable for everyday use, as it offers over 300 liters of luggage space with two luggage compartments at the front and rear and a large tailgate. But a Porsche is not about suitability for everyday use, but about image, and that's where the 911 clearly outshines the Cayman, because the big brother embodies the unique myth that characterizes Porsche. This is also evident in the sales figures, where the cheaper Cayman is at a disadvantage compared to its big brother, and this dilemma is also illustrated by the worldwide tuning scene in which the Cayman has so far hardly been represented. But this Cayman with Pandem widebody kit shows that the entry-level coupé from the Zuffenhausen-based sports car manufacturer is also ideally suited as a tuning object.

Eye catcher with an extra wide look.

The widebody kit, which allows the Cayman to grow significantly in width, comes from the house of Pandem rocketbunny tra-kyoto, and gives the little Porsche a significantly more masculine and athletic appearance. The rear apron has been completely redesigned and has an extremely eye-catching diffuser look, which makes the rear view of the Cayman strongly reminiscent of a sitting frog. The recess for the two centrally placed exhaust pipes fits seamlessly into the unconventional design of the rear apron. A small homage to the blessed Carrera 2.7 RS is probably the rump spoiler attached to the rear, which in our opinion looks great on the Cayman. The front apron has also been heavily redesigned, and the Zuffenhausen-based company received optical modifications in the form of fake ventilation slots between the headlights, and a completely new lower grille and a revised front spoiler lip. However, the highlight of the complete renovation are the Brushed double dark tint finish Forgestar M14 rims, which are made of brushed, dark gray aluminum and immediately catch the eye with their drop center look. A large rear wing is optionally available for this vehicle, which replaces the ducktail spoiler. Regardless of whether with or without a rear wing, in our opinion the 987 looks razor-sharp and would turn the heads of numerous car and tuning fans at any brand-open tuning meeting.

The engine was not modified.

Unfortunately, we do not know which engine is used in this Cayman, but for the model, which was built from 2005 to 2013, six-cylinder boxer engines with 2,7, 2,9 and 3,4 liters displacement were available . The power range extends from a meager 245 hp to more athletic 330 horses. The torque varies between an almost ridiculous 273 and 370 Newton meters, and the power is transmitted either via a manual gearbox with 5 or 6 gears, or an automatic called Tiptronic S with five speed levels. A 7-speed PDK transmission is also available for the newer models of this generation, this is what Porsche calls the dual-clutch transmission. The top speed of the Cayman 987 is between 253 and 280 km / h, depending on the engine, and the sprint to country road pace takes between a sporty 4,7 seconds and a pretty loooong 7 seconds.

Cayman 987 to get hold of relatively cheap.

Because the Cayman is rather misunderstood in the Porsche scene and cannot keep up with the 911 in terms of prestige, the stability of its value also suffers. Well-preserved older models with high mileage are already available for around 30.000 euros, and are therefore also interesting for younger buyers who may want to purchase a Cayman as a project car in order to then modify it properly. As always, a picture gallery of the vehicle we are presenting should not be missing, and we have added this at the end of the text.
