New Guinness world record for the Porsche Taycan!

At the moment, life is happening indoors due to current corona restrictions - including for the US racing driver Leh Keen. In doing so, he came up with an interesting, albeit courageous, idea: a record drive in a closed building. The Guinness world record for the fastest measured speed of a vehicle inside a building was previously 138,4 km / h. The rules for a new record attempt are extensive: Leh had to accelerate from standstill in the building and also come to a standstill again. There was no flying start, no safety net and also no open gates at the end if the braking distance was insufficient. The previous record lasted seven years for good reason.

Still, Leh was full of confidence. He needed a car with good traction that had excellent acceleration and braking power. The choice fell on the Taycan Turbo S - with 1.050 Newton meters and 560 kW (761 PS), all-wheel drive, powerful ceramic brakes and an acceleration from zero to 100 km / h in 2,8 seconds. Choosing the right building turned out to be another challenge. This is where the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, an exhibition hall in New Orleans in the US state of Louisiana, came into play. With almost 93.000 square meters, the exhibition hall advertises the largest contiguous area of its kind in the United States - ideal for the test. The problem: As in many other halls, the polished concrete floor resembled mirror-like ice, especially at higher speeds.

The standard road tires were therefore preheated for safety reasons. When the record attempt finally came, one run was enough. "I used the launch control. The feeling of speed in a building is something completely different - the wall came at me very quickly. The brakes did their job with flying colors.“He didn't pay attention to the pace while driving. "So I was both surprised and relieved that I beat the record by such a large margin. It was really exciting! I am very grateful to Porsche that they believed in me. 165 km / h in an exhibition hall ... What was I thinking?”Said Keen with a laugh.
