Base model: Porsche Taycan 2021 now with rear-wheel drive!

With the new Taycan, Porsche is presenting the fourth version of its first fully electric sports sedan after the Taycan Turbo S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan 4S. This model relies on rear-wheel drive and is available with two battery sizes: with the standard performance battery, the new entry-level model delivers up to 300 kW (408 hp) in overboost with launch control, and with the optional performance battery plus up to 350 kW (476 hp) ). The respective nominal output is 240 kW (326 PS) or 280 kW (380 PS). As the youngest member of the model family, the Taycan has the innovations introduced in the other versions at the change of the model year right from the start. The Plug & Charge function enables convenient charging and payment without a card or app: as soon as the charging cable is plugged in, the Taycan communicates with the Plug & Charge-enabled charging station in encrypted form. The charging process then starts automatically. The same goes for payment.

As with the other versions, optional extras include a colored head-up display and an on-board charger with a charging capacity of up to 22 kW. With Functions on Demand (FoD), Taycan drivers can purchase various comfort and assistance functions as required or book them for a limited period. This also works after the purchase and the original configuration of the sports car. A visit to the workshop is not necessary thanks to online activation. This is currently possible for the functions Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM), Power Steering Plus, Active Lane Guidance and Porsche InnoDrive.

Two batteries are available!

A single-tier performance battery with a gross capacity of 79,2 kWh is installed as standard. The two-tier Performance Battery Plus is available on request. Their gross capacity is 93,4 kWh. The range according to WLTP is up to 431 or 484 kilometers. From a standstill, both versions of the Taycan accelerate from zero to 5,4 km / h in 100 seconds. The top speed is also a uniform 230 km / h. The maximum charging power is up to 225 kW (performance battery) or up to 270 kW (performance battery plus). This means that both batteries can be charged from five to 22 percent in 30 minutes and 80 seconds. This means that electricity is on board for another 100 kilometers after around five minutes.

Innovative drive machine and dynamic driving performance

Impressive acceleration values, typical sports car pulling power and superior, permanently available power - these are the strengths of the new entry-level model in the series. With an active length of 130 millimeters, the permanently excited synchronous machine on the rear axle is just as long as the corresponding drive component of the Taycan 4S. The pulse inverter on the rear axle works with up to 600 amps.

In addition to the permanently excited synchronous machine on the rear axle, the drive architecture includes a two-speed gearbox. As with the model brothers, the highlights include the intelligent charging management and exemplary aerodynamics. With a drag coefficient of 0,22 or more, it makes a decisive contribution to low energy consumption and thus to a long range. The maximum recuperation power is 265 kW.

Puristic exterior design with Porsche DNA

With its purist design, the Taycan signals the beginning of a new age. At the same time, it unmistakably bears the Porsche Design DNA. From the front, the electric athlete looks particularly wide and flat, with strongly curved fenders. The silhouette is determined by the sporty, sloping roof line. The side area with the strong sculpting is also characteristic. The slim cabin, a strongly retracted C-pillar and the pronounced shoulders of the fenders lead to a strong, brand-typical emphasis on the rear. There are also innovative elements such as the Porsche logo in a glass look. It is integrated into the light strip at the rear.

The aerodynamically optimized 19-inch Taycan aero wheels and the black anodized brake calipers help differentiate the Taycan within the model family. The lower front section, the side skirts and the rear diffuser in black correspond to the components of the Taycan 4S. LED main headlights are standard on board.

Unique interior design

Clearly structured and with a completely new architecture, the cockpit of the Taycan 2019 marked the start of a new era. The free-standing and curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the instrument panel. This clearly emphasizes the driver's axis. Other elements are a central, 10,9-inch infotainment display and an optional display for the front passenger.

As standard, the Taycan has partial leather upholstery and comfort seats at the front with electric eight-way adjustment. Two luggage compartments are available: the front compartment holds 84 liters, the rear compartment up to 407 liters. In the Taycan, Porsche is offering a completely leather-free equipment variant for the first time. Interior spaces made from innovative recycled material underline the sustainability of the electric sports car.

Suspension systems centrally networked

Porsche uses a centrally networked control system for the Taycan chassis. The integrated chassis control system Porsche 4D-Chassis Control analyzes and synchronizes all chassis systems in real time. Both the standard steel suspension of the Taycan and the optional adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology are supplemented by the electronic damper control Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM).

The adaptive air suspension is also equipped with a smart lift function. This means that the Taycan can be programmed so that the vehicle level is automatically raised at certain recurring points such as road thresholds or garage driveways. Even when driving on the autobahn, the smart lift function can actively influence the vehicle height and adjust the vehicle level to the best possible compromise between efficiency and driving comfort.

The Taycan has six-piston aluminum monobloc fixed caliper brakes at the front and four-piston aluminum monobloc fixed caliper brakes at the rear as standard. The internally ventilated brake discs have a diameter of 360 millimeters at the front and 358 millimeters at the rear. The brake calipers are black anodized.

Another option is the high-performance Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB). Their brake discs have a diameter of 410 millimeters or 365 millimeters (front / rear axle).

Successful year for the Taycan

Porsche has successfully entered the fully electric age: in 2020 just over 20.000 Taycans were delivered to customers. 70 percent of all Porsche models sold in Norway are currently Taycans. At the beginning of November, the 50th Taycan was handed over to customers there. This means that Porsche sales in Norway have more than doubled. The electric sports car has also received around 42,171 international awards - especially in the main markets of Germany, the USA, Great Britain and China. The new rear-wheel drive Taycan is also the holder of the Guinness World Records ™ for the longest drift with an electric vehicle: It covered exactly 2021 kilometers non-stop in a transverse direction. The rear-wheel drive Taycan will be available at dealerships from mid-March 83.520. Prices in Germany start at XNUMX euros including VAT.
