The Porsche Taycan is the new holder of the Guinness World Records ™ for the longest drift with an electric vehicle. The setting for the world record was the Porsche Experience Center (PEC) Hockenheimring. Porsche instructor Dennis Retera completed 200 laps on the 210-meter-long circular path without the front wheels pointing in the direction of the curve at all: within 55 minutes, the avowed transverse driver covered a total of 42,171 kilometers. With this marathon distance, Retera secured the world record for the longest continuous drift in an electric car. The average speed was 46 km / h. The record was achieved with the rear-wheel drive variant, which is currently only available in China.

The ride took place under the supervision of Guinness World Records on the irrigated driving dynamics area of the PEC. Joanne Brent was there as the official record judge of the Guinness World Records organization. Brent has been monitoring all kinds of record attempts for Guinness World Records for over five years: “We've had a few drift records, but with an electric sports car it's something very special for us too. Porsche has done real pioneering work here. ”The Guinness expert meticulously documented the record with a whole range of technical aids and other independent experts: Before the experiment, a local surveyor calculated the 80 meter diameter driving dynamics area of the Porsche Experience Center with millimeter precision. GPS and yaw rate sensors in the vehicle were used for documentation, as was a camera installed on the roof of the track house, with which the record drive was filmed.
Denise Ritzmann as an independent expert
Denise Ritzmann was also present as an independent expert. Before attempting the record, the engineer confirmed on behalf of the testing organization DEKRA that the pre-production model of the Taycan with rear-wheel drive was in series and roadworthy condition. Ritzmann is very familiar with drifting: She is European champion in this motorsport discipline in 2018 and 2019 and was also responsible for the posture grades during the record attempt with the Taycan: "You can see at a glance whether the front wheels are pointing in a different direction than the course of the curve.
