Mercedes has just presented the third generation of the GLS (X167) which, also because of the BMW X7, had to grow by 77 mm in length to keep up. With a length of 5,2 m it is a real monster that makes a real impression with its steep radiator grille and chrome-plated underrun protection. And of course there will also be an AMG GLS 63. But until then you have to be content with the GLS 580 4MATIC with 360 kW (489 PS) & 700 Nm torque, which is currently the top model. Or you can simply use the now much cheaper predecessor (X166) and there you can fall back on the 585 hp GLS 63 4MATIC top model. And that's exactly what the Mercedes specialists from Posaidon have now got their hands on. And with a massive increase in performance, they show what the M 157 engine can do.

The tuner from Mülheim-Kärlich donated the additional abbreviation "RS 850" to the GLS and thus gives an outlook on what has happened under the hood. No less than crazy 853 PS and 1300 NM torque brings the 5,5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine to light, delivering acceleration in just 3,5 seconds to 100 km / h. The top speed, however, is impressive 310 km / h forget that you actually sit in a XXL SUV. In order to achieve the additional performance, of course, more than just the in-house Posaidon chip tuning is required. A lot has happened on the hardware of the GLS engine. There were in-house upgrade turbocharger, changes to the intercooler and intake and under the body sits now a sports exhaust system with flap control including motorsport catalysts.

And so that the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic gearbox with hardware reinforcements and software upgrades does not dissipate in air, the torque had to be limited. It could have been even more. And for better road holding Posaidon sets the GLS by means of electronic lowering module a few inches lower. The tuner also ensures that the factory 22 Zoll AMG rims sit fuller in the wheel arch. And of course there was also a modified brake system. In order to brace the good 2,5 tons of heavy SUVs, Posaidon built huge 420 millimeter W222 S-Class carbon-ceramic discs with golden 6 piston calipers and 360 discs in the back.

Optically, Posaidon sticks back as usual. If a little less than usual. The GLS got namely the AMG grille of the GLE Coupe (C 292) and specially adapted carbon inserts on the front and rear apron and the exterior mirrors. And in the cabin, carbon and Alcantara accents and an improved multimedia system make the difference to the series.
