Project 601: Trabant tuning to cup winner in 9 weeks!

Unbelievable, but it only took 9 weeks until this Trabant 601 as "Project601" went from the junkyard to the cup winner. And all this with average tools that every car workshop has and without high-end knowledge of the tuning scene. The Trabant was used for show purposes in the hi-fi area (EMMA, dBdrag-Racing, Propper-Dropper) and built by three Dutchmen (Antoine Klerks, Tonny Evers and Alexander Roeken) put into practice as “De Bunker Crew”. The motto was "Stop dreaming, start building!“And actually it all came about for fun.

The guys claimed that in just a few weeks they could put together an award-winning vehicle that beats a professional conversion. And that claim was followed only a short time later by action. And so the 601 from 1973 received a completely new life. In 9 weeks, and with the help of the guys from Hi-Fi-Motive (distributor) and Goossens (auto repair shop), the GDR classic was completed and, in addition to a hi-fi extension, also received a completely restored body. A lowering, a set of aluminum rims, a sports exhaust system with a central tailpipe and a complete paint finish are the most visually striking features. But even small details such as the new headlights at the front and rear or the all-round tinted windows set the scene for the 601.

The main focus, however, was definitely on the hi-fi expansion in the interior. There were countless loudspeakers in specially adapted housings, a fully developed trunk with huge illuminated subwoofers and even LCD screens in the headrests. This also includes a central infotainment system in the dashboard. Hats off to the idea, the will and ultimately the result. By the way, you can find all photos of “Project601”. HERE, Of course we have a lot more pictures of the different vehicles of tuningblog.eu readers of the last years. Do you want to get an overview? Then just click HERE.
