With real power: 2023 Range Rover Sport SV Edition One with 635 hp!

Check this out: BMW's 4,4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 has found a new playground - in the newly minted Range Rover Sport SV. After arousing the enthusiasm of a number of BMW drivers, hardcore Range Rover fans can now also look forward to the Bavarian power plant under the hood. The clever Brits have embedded the V8 in a mild hybrid system, conjuring up an impressive system performance of 635 hp and a maximum torque of 750 Newton meters on the asphalt. The Range Rover Sport SV Edition One is easily on par with the BMW M5 CS (F90 LCI) and not only leaves direct competitors such as the X5 M (F95 LCI) and X6 M (F96 LCI) in the rear-view mirror, but also its predecessor , which was still powered by the 5,0-liter supercharged V8.

Range Rover Sport SV Edition One

And guess what, the Bavarian V8 beast manages to propel the British luxury SUV from zero to 3,6 miles (roughly 60 km/h) in just 96 seconds. Even the 100 mark could therefore be cracked in significantly less than four seconds. And in contrast to the German competition, who drop anchor at 250 km/h, the British let their Range Rover Sport SV run freely at up to 180 miles or 290 km/h on the autobahn. Just to understand: With the X5 M and X6 M, 250 km/h is usually the end of the terrain, unless you grab the optional M Driver's Package to also be able to reach a top speed of 290 km/h.

Of course, from a company perspective, the environmental aspect also plays a role. The switch to the BMW V8 engines was therefore a smart move: the previous supercharged V8 was not only 60 hp and 50 Newton meters weaker than the Munich unit, it also blew 15 percent more CO₂ into the atmosphere, which made compliance with the has made fleet average emissions a real challenge. But hey, that's not all! The Range Rover Sport SV has some cool extras up its sleeve, like a carbon bonnet as standard and the world's first 23-inch carbon wheels for a production car as an option.

fat carbon-ceramic brake system

A carbon-ceramic brake system can now also be ordered for the first time. The brakes alone save 34 kilograms in weight, and the carbon wheels are even 35,6 kilograms lighter than conventional aluminum. The suspension is a mix of air and active roll stabilization, and Range Rover claims that even with all-season tires the new SV can manage up to 1,1g of lateral acceleration, which would be a 22 per cent improvement over a previous model with summer tyres. All these facts show that the Brits are taking a much sportier course with their new SV than in the past.

Well, whether all the improvements are actually enough to put the German performance SUVs in the shade, time will tell - and of course a series of comparative tests in the coming months. To sum up, the new Range Rover Sport SV is not only a significant improvement over its predecessor, it is also a real heavyweight in the luxury SUV world. With its monstrous Bavarian V8 heart, heaps of innovative tech and mind-blowing performance, it's certainly poised to revolutionize the SUV market. But at the end of the day, the best judges will be the people lucky enough to drive it. In any case, it will be exciting to see what the future brings!
