The company R-FIT is a trademark of the French parent company MCC Automotive based in Cassis (France) and started in 2016 with the development and approval of an e-conversion kit for the Citroën 2CV and the Renault 4L. And since the classics are extremely popular in France, it is not surprising that R-FIT has received countless requests to convert the oldis into full-fledged ones Electric Cars to convert And the high demand is also the reason why Renault decided to partner with R-FIT. You can see some example vehicles from the day after tomorrow on the 47th Paris Motor Show Rétromobile (February 1st to 5th). There, R-FIT will exhibit electric conversions based on the R4, the R5 and the first generation Twingo, which can even be ordered directly.
Renault & R-FIT cooperation
The e-retrofit kit for the Renault 4 is available from €11.900 including VAT and installation. The retrofit kit for the Renault 5 will be available from September 2023 and a retrofit kit for the Twingo (Gen. 1) at a later date. In the course of the conversion, the combustion engine was replaced by an electric synchronous motor with a peak output of only 14,5 kW, which roughly corresponds to the series output. Incidentally, the factory mechanical gearbox remains untouched, so it is certainly interesting to change gears manually without hearing the sound of the revving engine. Incidentally, R-FIT uses a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) version as the battery. The 105V battery has a capacity of only 10,7 kWh, so the maximum range of around 80 km is almost ridiculous compared to modern electric cars.
no fast charge available
The system can be charged via a 16A - 220 V household socket and a complete charge takes about 210 minutes. And as far as we know, the conversion in France is even eligible. Unfortunately, the battery is housed in the trunk, so that in any case there is an impairment of the loading capacity and also the weight distribution. By the way, it comes with a two-year guarantee. Currently buying one Renault Incidentally, 4 classic cars in connection with the conversion are more expensive than a new Renault Zoe.
