With the appearance of the Mercedes-Benz C292 GLE Coupe (since 2015) it has become extremely quiet about the technically identical W166 (GLE SUV), which was previously sold as the M-Class. Completely unfounded in our opinion because the top model GLE63 AMG in particular is the proverbial “wolf in sheep's clothing” as the “S” version. While the GLE SUV is expected to have a full performance due to the massive proportions, in our opinion the SUV variant looks significantly different. It is trimmed more for understatement and only reveals its potential when you step on the accelerator. Then 585 PS & 760 NM torque from a V8 BiTurbo ensure that almost 2,4 tons are catapulted to 4,2 km / h in just 100 seconds and the propulsion is only put to an end at an electronically sealed 280 km / h.
But apparently not enough for the RENNtech team, who use RENNtech R3 + performance enhancement to ensure that 852 PS & 1290 NM torque fall on all four wheels from now on. The result is an acceleration of only 3,5 seconds to 100 km / h and the quarter mile is done in 11,47 seconds. Please note that you are sitting in an SUV and not in a sports car. In order to achieve the full performance plus, of course, individual chip tuning software but also a lot of changes to the hardware are required. Among other things, there were sports air filters, stainless steel downpipes, a new fuel pump, revised turbochargers and the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic was also adapted to the additional power. And a lot has also changed visually. The most noticeable change relates to the paintwork because the GLE was completely wrapped in satin-matt blue which, in conjunction with many black accents and details made of carbon fiber, ensures a fresh look.
And there was also a new set of alloy wheels and here it was decided to HRE Performance Wheels of the type S201H which fit perfectly with the overall picture with their black paint. If you look closely, you also recognize a redesigned brake system that brings large slotted brake discs and red painted brake calipers. Apparently, a subtle lowering was installed but for this we have no information at the moment. Because of the little information there is not much to say so that we leave it at the moment with the pictures.
