Restomod, Restomod, Restomod! It seems that the tuning scene, especially in America, is changing. Of course, current vehicles like that continue to be Corvette C8, Ford Mustang or various copies of Cadillac & Co modified, but no less are currently tuned classics at the start. And in view of the fact that these are much rarer to find on the market, this is a strong sign that a real hype is just beginning here or is already in full swing. A hype about 50 to 70 year old vehicles that are equipped with the latest technology and are almost always allowed to enjoy a comprehensive restoration. And one of those vehicles is this GMC 1500 Shortbed (Vin: 1502PF41390) from 1965.
with 5-liter V8 from the Corvette
A completely restored and rebuilt classic in top condition with a thick 5-liter V8 from the Corvette under the hood. And even decades after production, the compact pickup is still an optical highlight as we find it. That's exactly how you imagine a restomod classic, right? In addition, almost every modern pickup truck looks pale! Because the new boxes all have a conventional appearance and are anything but unusual in terms of design. At least in series production ... Don't get us wrong, we love modern vehicles and their technology, but at the moment we love the classic shapes of the old boxes even more. Especially when they are styled as perfectly as this 1965 GMC 1500 with a short loading area. It is part of the then very successful C / K series, which was marketed from 1959 both under the name Chevrolet and as a GMC.
powder coated Detroit Steel wheels
Most of the design lines from the original were retained when the 1500 was converted, which is particularly true for the four headlights in the chrome-plated radiator grille. However, some applications, such as the unnecessary protective strips, were also removed, giving the body a particularly clean look. The GMC 1500 is painted in a chic green (light green metallic) with a cream-colored velvet roof pinstriping and also the 20 inch Detroit Steel wheels rims with the mounted Nitto tires in format 225 and 255 / 35ZR20 are now in cream / white (powder-coated) painted. And, of course, a completely overhauled cabin was also taken care of. Here, for example, the seat and the dashboard have been re-leathered and there is also a brown carpet, a high-quality Grant sports steering wheel with a wooden rim and the original band speedometer (flat speedometer) that only brings the most necessary displays.
A flat speedometer was typical at the time
The 370ci V8 engine already mentioned is connected to a Muncie four-speed transmission and continues to drive the rear wheels. A decent sports brake system with disc brakes ensures a good deceleration and even an Airride air suspension was available for the classic. The control unit and the necessary displays for the chassis are inconspicuously installed under the dashboard. A successful copy that is definitely a one-off and we really like it. If we receive timely information on further changes to the GMC 1500, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed if you simply use ours Feed subscribe to.
