SSC North America (Small series supercar manufacturer) announced yesterday that the SSC Tuatara set a new record for the Top speed for production vehicles has set up. Driven by Larry Caplin (dentist), the super sports car reached a top speed of at the Johnny Bohmer proving ground in Florida 295 miles per hour (approx. 475 km/h). after one controversial record in 2020 So the SSC Tuatara is back and this time with one real Record. In 2020, the American hypercar set an alleged new world record of over 500 km/h, beating it Bugatti Chiron SS 300+. But the record was controversial and SSC later announced that it was in fact not drove over 300 miles per hour (approx. 483 km/h). A year later there was a second successful Trial in Florida at an average speed (round trip) of 282 mph (455 km/h).

And the current record is slowly but surely working towards that 300 mph mark approach. Incidentally, GPS devices from Racelogic and Life Racing were used to record the data. The Tuatara is built by SSC North America and is the successor to the Ultimate Aero. It will be from one 5,9 liter V8 bi-turbo driven, which makes different power levels possible. The "Base SSC Tuatara" performs up to 1.750 PS with E85 fuel and a torque of 1.800 Nm. The SSC Tuatara Striker is a track-focused variant with identical specs, and both versions are limited to 100 vehicles. The SSC Tuatara Aggressor, on the other hand, is a pure track version with a power of 2.200 PS and a torque of 2.150 Nm. Only 10 vehicles will be built by him.
