Skoda Mountiaq 2019 - trainee concept car as a pickup

For the sixth time, the trainees from the manufacturer Skoda have set up their own project vehicle. This year it is a pickup by name Mountiaq, The vehicle was created in over 2000 working hours (good eight months working time) and with the help of 35 apprentices based on a Skoda Kodiaq. And compared to the 2018 SUV convertible Skoda Sunroq based on the Karoq Mountiaq seems somehow consistent as we find. The highlight of the conversion is of course the cargo area with hidden storage compartment and cool LED lighting. The doors had to give way at the back and the roof was shortened. And even the small windows behind the B-pillars and the rear window are special custom-made only for this car. And only at second glance, it becomes clear that even the doors of custom-made items should fit the widebody kit. The whole vehicle is a bit wider than a Kodiaq with the result that the front and rear aprons had to be adjusted as well.

The Mountiaq, which is painted in “Sunset Orange”, now trumps the 2-meter mark by one centimeter. And clearly there was also a new set of wheels. The off-roader stands on special 17-inch wheels with coarse-tread off-road slippers and wheel hub decorations from the 3D printer. Compared to the series, the ground clearance is increased by 10 cm to a full 29 cm. At the same time, the track grows by 3 cm, which ensures that the slightly larger wheelhouses are consistently filled. But there are even more details that ensure species-appropriate effectiveness away from paved slopes. First and foremost there is the huge cow catcher with a large winch at the front and the additional LED lights in the front apron, in the radiator grille and the huge LED light bar on the roof are useful accessories in the outback. And so that the 2,0-liter TSI petrol engine with 190 PS can always take a breath, there was a huge intake snorkel on the passenger side.

An extreme fording depth of Mountiaq is ensured. And of course, the interior is as well custom. In the "Simply Clever" style, there was an illuminated Skoda emblem on the headliner, a practical refrigerator, two walkie talkies and other details such as a sound system with 2.000 watt amplifier and subwoofer as well as its own logo that shows the Mountiaq in front of a mountain silhouette. The video below documents the construction of the vehicle and impressively shows almost every detail of the creation, from attaching the individual wheel arch extensions at the rear, to filling the body, to painting and assembling the Mountiaq.
