Basically we know the SpeedKore Performance Group with converted American classics from Ford, Chevrolet or Dodge. Although there are always current vehicles that are converted by SpeedKore, the main focus is clearly on American oldies. But now a German classic car has been hit. And a real classic. SpeedKore dared to try a BMW 3.0 CS (E9 / E3 series) from 1974. And construction began a few years ago and was finally presented at SEMA 2018. Somehow it hasn't flickered across the screen so far. Now we're going to make up for it and show you the elegant one-off. The carbon fiber specialists built the tuned BMW 3.0 CS especially for Robert Downey Jr. And not for the first time.

BMW 3.0 CS for Robert Downey Jr.

For the actor the 1967 'Captain America' Camaro and the 1970 Mustang Boss 302 manufactured. And if we are properly informed, it was actually the first time that SpeedKore converted a German vehicle. And then a rare BMW E9 Coupé! And it's not made of carbon, but classically made of steel. The vehicle has been restored from the ground up and down to the last screw, but of course a little carbon fiber couldn't be missing. The mighty front apron with the two distinctive round holes, the side skirts and the rear bumper are made of carbon. The components contribute significantly to the modern, classic appearance of the 3.0. In combination with the paintwork in brick red and the original BMW radiator grille, the result is a successful mix of styles.

elaborate wood grain all around

But as always, it is the small details such as the window frames in Cerakote titanium gray and the classic yellow round headlights in the front that set the stage for the visual appearance. The all-round chrome strip at the height of the belt line and the spoiler lip on the tailgate are covered with a hydro-dipped wood grain as an eye-catcher. You don't see that every day. The most striking feature from the modern age is definitely the ultra-light, three-piece and forged wheel set from HRE Performance Wheels in gray. It hangs on a chassis that has been upgraded with Bilstein shock absorbers and also hides a completely new sports brake system from Brembo. Specifically, it is a system with 6 pistons on the front axle and 4 pistons at the rear with perforated brake discs and black calipers.

chic wood grain also in the cabin

And Downey wanted the aforementioned wood grain on the outside due to the interior. Because here the gray wood tone shows on the Nardi steering wheel and the dashboard trim. The decor goes perfectly with the coffee-colored upholstery with woven seat centers and door panels. Incidentally, the dashboard has been completely redesigned by SpeedKore to create space for a Classic Instruments instrument cluster and a hidden touchscreen infotainment display. The back seat, however, flew out and was replaced by a padded luggage deck. Incidentally, under the tailgate, the E9 has an integrated Yeti cool box equipped with leather for storing snacks and drinks. Why? No idea! And something has also happened under the hood. Instead of the 3,0-liter straight six-cylinder M30 carburettor engine, the SpeedKore E9 now has the S38B36 with injection system from the BMW M5 of the E34 generation. The 3,6-liter engine brings 315 PS and 360 NM to the rear wheels and is a significant improvement over the standard CS engine.

still with ZF four-speed automatic

Because the copies built in the period from 1971 to 1975 had only 180 PS & 255 Nm. And then there was only a maximum of 3,2 PS & 206 NM with the 286-liter CSL. With the new engine, on the other hand, it should be possible to accelerate to 6 kilometers per hour in under 100 seconds and the top speed should easily be 250 km / h. But only if the ZF four-speed automatic allows it. Why not rely on the M5's six-speed manual transmission is questionable. However, this is the only point of criticism that we can think of. As always, the rest of the vehicle is outstanding. In particular, the beautiful handcrafted interior with the new dashboard and wood grain is a dream. And finally ... As expected, an outstanding one-off item that is second to none! If we receive timely information about further changes, there is of course an update for this report.
