For the first time, the "TGR-E United" team will start at the ADAC TotalEnergies 24-hour race at the Nürburgring with a vehicle that is not fueled with fossil fuels, but with climate-friendly and almost CO₂-neutral, synthetic fuel. To do this, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Europe team will use a GR Supra GT4 that was developed at the motorsport headquarters in Cologne and equipped with a close-to-production three-liter six-cylinder engine that has been specially optimized for motorsport and delivers 320 kW* ( 430 hp). With its use in the long-distance classic in the Eifel, the new technology is subjected to an absolute endurance test: a 24-hour full-throttle race on the world's most demanding racetrack. "We at TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Europe have already gained a lot of experience with alternative drives, but racing with synthetic fuel is new territory for us too," says Jörg Mertin, Team Manager TGR-E United. "We are always open to innovation and look forward to proving that the GR Supra GT4 will also perform well on synthetic fuel."

Dirk Wullenweber, "Race2efuels" project manager and Head of Marketing & Trade at the LOTHER Group (owner of the NORDOEL petrol stations): "The great advantage of the synthetic fuel Racing eFuels 98 of our Race2efuels project - it can be used immediately in any combustion engine that otherwise uses normal premium petrol needed. In this way, the existing filling station infrastructure (e.g. our own NORDOEL filling stations) can be used for mineral oil-free and virtually CO2-neutral and therefore climate-friendly fuel. The use of e-fuels is therefore an important part of the energy mix”. The stock of combustion vehicles is estimated at more than 2030 million vehicles for the year 30 in Germany alone. In order to drive these in a sustainable and climate-friendly manner, synthetic fuels are essential. In order for these to get from the racetrack to the streets in a timely manner, important political decisions have to be made, such as those that have now been implemented for synthetic kerosene.

This already REACH-certified, synthetic petrol is manufactured by Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH (CAC) in cooperation with the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Here, CAC and the technical university operate Europe's largest demo plant with a theoretical production capacity of one million liters per year. dr Rene Stahlschmidt, CAC Sales Manager: "Based on methanol, which can be produced from CO₂ and "green" hydrogen or from bio-methanol, CAC has developed the patented process that does not require fossil raw materials." Around 46.000 liters of the synthetic fuel were used Test stand tests and fleet tests made available to automobile and motorcycle manufacturers and consistently rated positively. Now, at the world's toughest long-distance race, the 24-hour Nürburgring, the fuel is supposed to show that it can easily withstand an absolutely tough tour and prove its durability.

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
