CUPRA unveils concept car Tavascan Extreme E!

On the occasion of this year's IAA MOBILITY in Munich, CUPRA is presenting its new concept vehicle: the CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E. The fully electric off-road racing car unmistakably carries the CUPRA DNA and represents the next evolutionary stage in the brand's racing adventure at the Extreme E. new concept car references to the design language of the future series model CUPRA Tavascan. This will be the brand's second all-electric vehicle designed and developed in Barcelona and is expected to hit the market in Europe and overseas in 2024.

The CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E presents a completely new exterior design with 100 percent CUPRA DNA and a holistic approach to the use of natural materials. This makes it more sustainable and makes subsequent adjustments and repairs easier.

"We fully support the Extreme E project", explains Antonino Labate, Director of Strategy, Business Development and Operations at CUPRA. “Electrification, sustainability, gender parity and diversity - these are the common values that connect CUPRA with Extreme E. Our CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E Concept shows the hard work that we at CUPRA are willing to do in order to be competitive again in the next racing season. "

Refined design, more design options

Compared to the model with which CUPRA entered the Extreme E in the first season, the front and rear design of this concept vehicle has evolved significantly. The use of LED technology gave the development team more freedom to design a vehicle with the unmistakable CUPRA DNA.

On each side of the vehicle, three individual lights in the typical CUPRA triangular design merge into one powerful headlight. In addition, the lighting is embedded in a 3D-printed frame - a technology that gives the CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E a very special touch.

These vehicle parts from the 3D printer are more efficient because they can be produced in just six hours. This enables the racing team to implement any modifications to the vehicle in record time, from minor repairs after an accident to changes to the position of the headlights. Furthermore, bulky and costly tools are not required for this quick replacement of components.

“As a concept vehicle, the CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E is the next evolutionary stage of our fully electric off-road racing car, which indicates the future direction of our brand. In addition, it also stands for technical progress ", explains the head of development of the CUPRA Racing Team, Xavi Serra. “Flax fibers are used in the body of this concept car to improve its sustainability. And its 3D-printed components can be reproduced in the shortest possible time so that it is always ready for use on the racetrack. "

Flax fibers for more sustainability

The carbon fiber elements of its body are made using the largest possible proportion of flax fibers and can therefore be easily replaced. The use of this natural product obtained from the flax plant also reduces the environmental impact of the concept vehicle. Thus, it corresponds to the claim of the Extreme E racing series to improve environmental awareness and to make the CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E even more sustainable than its predecessor.

The performance is not impaired in any way, because the material can be processed in the conventional way and thus opens up all the possibilities that the CUPRA engineers want in terms of shape and radius. This technology is so mature that it can already be used in the production of series vehicles.

The redesigned body of the CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E has a paint job that will undoubtedly make the concept car stand out in the upcoming off-road races - whether in the Arctic, in the desert, in front of glaciers or by the sea.

Unmistakable accents

As an unmistakable member of the CUPRA family, the fully electric off-road racing car is of course provided with copper accents. Its textures with parametric dynamics and its sporty lines make its exterior shimmer and also convey the impression of movement as the vehicle traverses the spectacular landscapes of Extreme E. The overlapping CUPRA logo creates an impressive 3D effect.

“The CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E looks just amazing. In addition, it is now not only purely electric, but is also really sustainable because recycled and natural materials such as flax fibers are used in this model ", explains CUPRA Extreme E pilot Jutta Kleinschmidt. "I can hardly wait to compete with this newly designed version!"

The concept car is equipped with a 54 kWh battery, which is placed behind the cockpit in order to achieve a balanced weight distribution. It manages the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in about four seconds and thus fulfills the regulations of the electric racing series.

Thomas Biermaier, Managing Director ABT Sportsline

“Almost exactly a year ago we announced our partnership with CUPRA and presented the design of our e-CUPRA ABT XE1. Since then, we've drawn a lot of attention together - both on and off the racetrack. The development of our own body by the designers and engineers at CUPRA is the next step in our close and successful cooperation. The CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E concept vehicle impresses down to the smallest detail. Now it's up to us to get the first trophies with this impressive racing car soon. "

Alejandro Agag, founder and CEO of the Extreme E racing series

“I am extremely pleased about the presentation of the CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E. This makes CUPRA the second automobile manufacturer whose Extreme-E team uses its own body. This step not only gives the series more style and personality, but also supports our goal of establishing Extreme E as a global marketing platform for our partners. Here, for example, CUPRA has the opportunity to present its future model to customers. Congratulations to this future-oriented and extremely visionary team. The CUPRA Tavascan Extreme E has a really breathtaking design. I'm really looking forward to his racing debut in the Extreme E. "
