For me, still the most beautiful 5er series is the timeless type E39 which was already presented in the year 1995. Even for the top-of-the-range E39 M5, I think the elegant sedan is even nicer than the brand new G30. Neither huge kidneys nor extremely large air intakes were installed here, and yet the 5er has a brawny appearance with just the right understatement. And one of the most sought-after models is certainly the 4,4l V8 with its 286 PS which I myself could call my own a few years ago. Also I had an automatic variant and was absolutely impressed by the performance and the acceleration. Later I drove for a few weeks a 540i as a hand switch and found that the difference to the big 400PS M5 turned out less than I thought.
Nevertheless, I decided only one year later for an E39 M5 of which I unfortunately only this a video have. But enough for me and back to the vehicle! 😉 ModBargains had the 540 on site to install a coilover kit from Bilstein. In addition, the 5 series has a DINAN intake under the bonnet (Dinan Free Flow Air Intake) and the sports exhaust system came from DINAN and ends in an end piece that corresponds to the series optics. A few nice details like a set of black kidneys or headlight covers made of carbon round off the black limo impressively. Of course, if we get more information about the modifications to the 540i, there is, as always, an update for this report. Thanks for this great article. For me, the E39 is also the most beautiful 5 Series that has ever been built. Absolutely timeless, the article hit it with “beefy appearance with just the right understatement”. I am currently driving an E90, I am absolutely dissatisfied and immensely disappointed with BMW (engine damage, paint quality, etc., the list is long). Getting a well-preserved E39 is unfortunately anything but easy.
