The chassis manufacturer KW automotive extends its delivery program for the Toyota GR Supra (A90; JTSC) with the KW Clubsport coilover kit, which can be adjusted in compression and rebound. It was specially developed for drivers who regularly start with Trackdays on race tracks with their near-series Supra. The entire chassis design was developed for semi-slick tires and the significantly higher cornering speeds on race tracks. The scope of delivery includes universal support bearings for camber adjustment for the front axle. Thanks to the multi-valve technology of the Clubsport dampers, it is possible to ideally adjust the damping with 16 clicks in the rebound and twelve clicks in the compression to the respective track layout and the tire characteristics. Due to the separate pressure and rebound setting, the KW Clubsport coilover suspension can be set to a road setup with greater rolling comfort.

In addition, a stepless lowering of up to 340 millimeters is possible on the Toyota GR Supra with its 2 hp in-line six-cylinder turbo engine with the KW Clubsport 2.599-way coilover kit (40 euros). For the approximately 100 kg lighter Supra four-cylinder variant, the chassis is about to be launched on the market. Many sports car drivers and drivers of sporty compact models regularly take part in trackdays on race tracks with their street-legal vehicles. The chassis manufacturer KW automotive has developed its KW Clubsport coilovers especially for this target group. Drivers who, despite regular track days with their Toyota GR Supra (A90, JTSC), can not do without road approval, will find an ideal retrofit option in the KW Clubsport suspension. "In a way, KW Clubsport is an adaptation of our motorsport suspension developed for the Toyota Supra GT4 racing car," explains KW Brand Manager Jonas Ehrmann.

Thanks to the Clubsport coilover suspension with tighter spring rates and the dampers designed for the use of semi-slicks, road holding and road grip at high cornering speeds and in dynamic driving limits benefit significantly. The harder tire carcasses and rubber compounds from Semislicks compared to road tires can build up much better grip with the KW suspension with parts certificate. The camber values for a maximum tire contact area during fast cornering can be set via the uniball bearings on the front axle struts of the KW Clubsport coilover. In addition, the chassis enables a stepless lowering despite the low center of gravity of the Toyota GR Supra. As part of the parts certificate, the tested adjustment range is 15 to 35 millimeters on the front axle and 20 to 40 millimeters on the drive axle.

KW Clubsport - Performance for the racetrack

On race tracks such as the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Hockenheimring, Lausitzring, Nürburgring Nordschleife and Sachsenring, serial chassis for sports cars and even conventional coilovers quickly reach their limits. The different asphalt surfaces on older race tracks are often a challenge for the interaction of tires and chassis. With a suspension with race track adjustment that can be adjusted separately in the damper force, the tires can work better than with a standard suspension designed for everyday use. Handling with a chassis designed for Trackdays, such as the KW Clubsport coilover, is also much more direct. "The fast downhill section of the Fuchsrrohr section on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with its feared compression and the demanding left bend at the end demands everything from a chassis," says KW Brand Manager Jonas Ehrmann. The club sport chassis enables optimum support of the body structure in the dynamic driving range and significantly reduces body swaying.

The multi-valve technology used in the dampers also prevents the semi-slick tires from losing their grip on poor road surfaces or aggressive curb cutting. If the damping is suddenly increased, the preconfigured high-speed valve opens in addition to the low-speed valve, for quick compression. "Our club sport dampers offer the option of adjusting the compression and rebound separately so that the driving behavior of the Supra can be precisely adjusted to the track profile and tire rigidity." With the rebound click setting, a bypass channel in the valve can be opened or closed with 16 clicks. This affects, among other things, how quickly the chassis rebounds when the load is changed. The rebound can also be described as how the body structure is connected to the road. The cross-section in the low-speed compression valve can be reduced or enlarged with twelve clicks in order to further adjust the damping. "With the adjustable low-speed pressure level, the body roll when turning in and the pitching behavior when braking and accelerating are specifically influenced," Jonas Ehrmann continues to describe the multi-valve technology.

"The damping of long bumps is also influenced by the low-speed compression stage." The high-speed compression stage cannot be set on the KW Clubsport 2-way, but it is preconfigured in advance for damper manufacture, in order to prevent short bumps or the notorious transverse joints the Caracciola carousel base plates on the Nordschleife to take their fright. Thanks to the parts certificate included in the scope of delivery, the KW Clubsport coilover kit can also be used in everyday life on public roads and the dampers can be adjusted to a road setting. The recommended retail price for the KW Clubsport 2-way coilover kit with its uniball bearings for the Toyota GR Supra is 2.599 euros. The KW Clubsport coilover is already under development for the lighter four-cylinder models of the Supra.
