For many Supra fans it was already a shock that Toyota used a BMW six-cylinder instead of its own engine for the new Supra. With 340 PS & 500 NM anything but weak, but the then BMW development director and today's VW boss Herbert Diess had agreed that with Toyota and the decision was made. And they also insisted on installing the ZF eight-speed automatic in the Japanese, which is basically not a bad idea. Quick change of gear steps, a crisp gear ratio in the first gears and you can also adjust the shift behavior with the help of the driving modes "normal" and "sport". However, none of this helped over the fact that no manual gearshift is available for the GR Supra (A90). But that is changing now. However, with the help of a tuner and not by Toyota itself!
8-speed automatic transmission -> 6-speed manual transmission
The European Auto Group (EAG) from Texas is currently building for about 12.000 $ in cooperation with the BMW Tuner ProTuning freaks Supra's new model generation to pure hand switch to. Always included is an increase in performance to about 425 PS whose origin, however, is not yet known to us at the moment. In this case, of course, the factory warranty expires, the company provides with an optional warranty of 4 years or 50.000 miles for a good alternative. A conversion takes between 30 and 45 days and is extremely expensive. Understandable because a manual transmission in a car to build, that was developed with a view to the automatic, is not just done that way. Does the transmission fit in the original tunnel? How to fix the clutch pedal? Is there room for the master cylinder in the engine compartment? Do you have to change the drive shaft? All things that have to be considered and put the costs into perspective.
