Trans Am 455 Super Duty based on the Chevrolet Camaro

Have you ever from the team "Trans Am Depot" (TransAm Worldwide) Heard from Tallahassee, Florida? No? We neither! But that could change in the near future, because the guys have been attracting attention for several years with spectacular Trans Am conversions based on the Chevrolet Camaro. And one of these vehicles is a blue "Trans Am 455 Super Duty" of the so-called Outlaw Series which saw the light of day in 2017 and a gold variant as the successor from 2019. The blue vehicle was then at the New York Auto Show presented and with a little delay we would like to present the conversions from the American tuner "Trans Am Depot" on tuningblog. The vehicle from 2017 was created by in-house chief designer and engineer Tom Sawyer, who, like his namesake, has brought the spirit of adventure and fantasy into the vehicle.

1000 PS & approx. 1450 NM torque

The trans On the 455 Super Duty is a complete re-design that has particularly slim, masculine body lines and is in line with the current shape of the Camaro. The successful proportions and traditional retro styling are unmistakably reminiscent of the Burt Reynolds 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SE Y84, but the current look of the Camarp is still retained. If desired, up to 1.000 HP and well over 1.000 Newton meters of torque can be blown under the hood to attack, which means that the power has almost quintupled compared to the 6,6-liter V8 at that time. Trans Am Worldwide announced in 2017 that it would only build 50 vehicles and these were sold out within a very short time. A resounding success that brought further small series of the tuner to light!

Magnuson Superchargers compressor

All vehicles were and are built in cooperation with Magnuson Superchargers (Ventura, CA), which also explains the huge increase in performance of the Chevy V8. The Pontiac fan base has been yearning for a new Trans AM, but the parent company General Motors does not seem to be thinking about it. The Trans Am 455 Super Duty based on the current Camaro from "TransAm Depot" is the perfect opportunity to drive a modern Trans AM and the 2017 vehicles were even signed by Burt Reynolds. And the Super Duty line, as a modernized reinterpretation of what the classic Pontiac sports car could look like today, has reached its climax with a gold-colored version at SEMA 2019. This vehicle was also completely sold out after a short time and only 50 of the golden version were built.

It comes with a classic Pontiac Trans Am sticker on the bonnet and the pointed Pontiac emblem on the front couldn't be missing. There is also the successful Targa top body style, which is made of carbon and is supplied with darkened polycarbonate windows. A Targa Camaro? Is there currently "actually" Not! However, as Trans Am 455 Super Duty, that changes! And when the golden paintwork based on the 1978 Y88 Gold Special Edition model is added, the result is perfect. And as already mentioned, the drive is also "perfect". The 2019 vehicle from the SEMA Auto Show featured a 7,5-liter V8 (455 cubic inches) based on the GM Small Block. Here, too, there is the Magnuson TVS2300 compressor and, as in 2017, the result in 2019 is an increase in performance to 1.000 PS and an incredible 1.420 NM torque.

And the drive is even coupled to a manual gearbox with a Hurst short throw shifter. And the cabin can also be individually adjusted on request. Here, for example, there is a new leather interior, the steering wheel has been modified and small details such as the special floor mats, the Trans AM door sills or the lush carbon also ensure individuality. No matter which variant (new 2020 Trans Am, used Outlaw Edition Trans Am, 2017 Super Duty 455) the limited series from the Trans Am Depot you decide, you have to be quick with the decision in any case and even a handsome six-figure amount should not be a problem. If this is the case, you have a dreamlike retro vehicle in the garage that with a high probability has no fear of loss of value.
