New KW classic suspension for the transaxle Porsche 944!

The chassis manufacturer KW automotive develops and manufactures chassis applications for more and more classic automobiles and sports cars. In addition to coilover suspensions for BMW vehicles from the late sixties, KW has long been offering its KW classic suspensions for numerous classic vehicles and youngtimers from Porsche (356, F and G models, 964, 968, 993, 996). Compared to the original equipment trolleys of that time and spare parts components available today, these height-adjustable trolleys have modern damper technology. This gives classic automobiles a contemporary, safe driving experience in everyday life. In addition to running gears for everyday use with old and young timers, KW also offers classic running gears for club sport activities.

A KW Clubsport coilover kit specially developed for track day enthusiasts is now available for the Porsche 944 including the 944 S, 944 S2 and 944 Turbo. It has racing springs, unibal support bearings and adjustable KW dampers with racing design. The parts certificate covers a stepless lowering of up to 55 millimeters and the recommended retail price is 3.259 euros.

The chassis manufacturer KW automotive offers one of the largest delivery programs of coilovers with parts certificates for vintage and youngtimers. "Due to the high demand from the classic Porsche community, we have developed the so-called KW Classic Clubsport 3-way coilover kit for the Porsche 2 in addition to the KW Classic Coilover Variant 944, which is adjustable in compression and rebound," says KW Brand Manager Jonas Ehrmann. “Porsche 944 drivers benefit from our motorsport know-how in customer racing from various automobile manufacturers such as Porsche. All Porsche 911 GT3 R, Porsche Cayman GT4 and special models such as the Porsche 935 (2018) and Porsche GT2 RS Clubsport are factory-fitted with our dampers. "

Modern trackday coordination and components

The KW Clubsport 2-way coilover kit made of stainless steel differs from the 2-way adjustable KW Variant 3 coilover kit by its damper valve structure. The entire interior of the Clubsport damper is designed for driving with semi-slick tires on racetracks. The low-speed and high-speed valves for the compression and rebound forces in the Clubsport coilover suspension have much higher valve spring rates. “On a trip to the racetrack, all vehicle components are stressed many times more than when driving in everyday life. Accordingly, all KW Clubsport assemblies such as the damper valves, piston rod, piston rod guide, elastomer spring elements, main springs (suspension springs) and preload springs are designed for these higher forces and wear, ”explains Jonas Ehrmann.

"The Clubsport coilover kit also has a much more modern design than the cup dampers used in the Porsche 944 Cup at the end of the 16s." so adjust the driving behavior to the route profile and the tire stiffness. With the rebound click setting, a bypass channel in the valve is manually opened or closed with XNUMX clicks. This influences, among other things, how quickly the chassis rebounds when the load changes. The rebound stage can also be described in terms of how the body is connected to the road. With the low-speed compression stage, twelve clicks are available to reduce or enlarge the cross-section in the low-speed compression stage valve in order to adapt the damping to the respective route profile.

With the low-speed pressure stage, the body roll when turning and the nodding behavior when braking and accelerating is targeted. The damping on long bumps is also influenced by the low-speed pressure level. In the event of a sudden increase in damping excitations, not only the low-speed valves but also preloaded high-speed valves that cannot be further adjusted open for rapid compression. This prevents the semi-slick tires from losing traction on undulating road surfaces or aggressive curb cutting. In addition, the KW Clubsport coilover kit for the Porsche 944 has unibaldom bearings for camber adjustment. The parts certificate included in the scope of delivery enables the front axle to be lowered continuously from 25 to 55 millimeters and on the drive axle from 20 to 45 millimeters. The KW Clubsport coilovers for all Porsche 3.259 including the 944 S, 944 S944 and 2 Turbo are available from 944 euros.
