Tuning on the BMW E36 classic? Almost duty!

[Update: 18.09.2023] This post was updatedto take more recent information into account. The BMW E36 is probably one of the most legendary models BMW has ever developed. It almost does not matter if it's a coupe, a convertible, a compact or the practical touring. A layman may probably never come to the classic design that this vehicle is soon to be a classic car. The E36 M3 was far ahead of its time and is still on the racetrack today. But also the other engines of the series offer their advantages. Almost all engines of the E36 range are considered unbreakable. In particular, the six-cylinder often have a mileage of 300.000 Thousand kilometers and more. No wonder then, that even after 36 years the E20 is not indispensable for the autotuning scene.

a legend also in the tuning segment

If you take a close look at the cars of the E36 tuning scene, it quickly becomes clear that this is more than just retrofitting an M-package. The tuning scene has its own changing trends. There used to be a lot of E36 autotuning models that missed an E46 look, but also because the E46 was newer and more expensive than the E36. Today, this has changed, the E36 has become a true classic and is priced in good condition well above the E46. Striking is that the tuning trends have become much more discreet, although you can still find striking today Rocket Bunny KitsHowever, most of the E36 owners are more likely to rely on fancy rims, lowering, loud exhaust and pulled wheel arches.

But not only the look is tuned, particularly popular in the field of engine tuning is the so-called map optimization. This is extremely simple to perform and protects the purse. But there is still a long way to go, get even more horsepower with manual conversions out of the engines. Especially remaining here is the conversion to a V8 from the big brother, the BMW E34 535 or 540i. However, this is still too little for some tuners, as there are already E36, which also missed twelve-cylinder engines.
