Update for the Taycan: more range, more connectivity, more colors

The Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo will start the new model year with extensive changes from September. Thanks to technical optimizations, the range of the electric sports car has improved in everyday life. Other important innovations are the deep integration of Android Auto into Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and Remote Park Assist. With this new, optional assistance system, parking can be controlled using a smartphone without the driver sitting in the car. With the new options "Color of your choice" and "Color of your choice Plus", unusual and personal color requests can now be realized: For example, the Taycan can now be painted in the brand-typical star ruby of the 90s or in bright acid green.

Porsche Taycan update

“The continuous technical development of our vehicles is part of Porsche's DNA. The youngest Taycan generation scores with seamless networking of smartphones, which now also includes Android Auto, ”says Kevin Giek, who has been Head of the Taycan Series since April. “Our fully electric Taycan sports car model series is growing and thriving. The Cross Turismo, which was added in the spring, has been extremely well received by our customers, as the excellent incoming orders show. "

Technology optimizations: more reach in practice

The new Taycan vintage is not homologated separately, so there are no new range values according to WLTP. Nevertheless, the range of action of the latest versions increases in everyday use. Extensive technical measures enable this increase: In the driving modes "Normal" and "Range", the front electric motor is almost completely decoupled and de-energized in the all-wheel drive vehicles in the partial load range. When sailing and at a standstill, there is even no drive torque on either axis. This electrical freewheel reduces drag losses. The motors are only switched on again within milliseconds when the driver requests more power or changes the driving program.

The thermal management and charging functions have also been further improved. With the Turbo Charging Planner, the high-voltage battery can now be heated to a slightly higher temperature than before. This allows it to be charged earlier and with a higher charge level. In addition, the waste heat from the electrical components is used to a greater extent to control the temperature of the battery.

Remote Park Assist: remote control for parking

With the new optional equipment Remote Park Assist, parking in and out of parking spaces can be carried out using a smartphone1) remote control without the driver sitting behind the steering wheel of the Taycan. Automatic control is possible in parallel and perpendicular parking spaces as well as garages. The system automatically detects parking spaces and measures them with the help of the ultrasonic sensors and the camera systems. If there is enough space, the driver can start the parking process using the Porsche Connect app and then get out. He constantly monitors the parking process by holding down a corresponding button on the smartphone's app surface. The active parking assistance automatically takes over the steering as well as the forward and reverse travel of the vehicle. If the button is released, the Taycan stops the parking maneuver immediately.

Android Auto: now also integrated into the infotainment system

The sixth generation of Porsche Communication Management (PCM) has been on board with the Taycan since its introduction. This made the electric athlete a pioneer in connectivity, especially in the deep integration of Apple Music and Apple Podcasts. In addition to Apple Car Play, Android Auto is now also integrated into the PCM. In addition to the iPhone, smartphones with the Google Android operating system are now also supported. Selected telephone functions and smartphone apps that do not impair driving safety can then be operated using the PCM 6.0 or the Google Assistant voice commands.

In addition, the voice assistant Voice Pilot now understands instructions in natural language even better. The navigation system calculates faster, primarily uses the online search for points of interest (POI) and also presents its information more clearly. The layout and operating concept have also been slightly revised: there are now instead of three on the left side of the central display five menu entries. The symbols can be rearranged individually.

Comeback of the cult colors: even more individual paintwork

In the 90s of the last millennium, Porsche had brightly colored paintwork in its range that quickly achieved cult status among fans of the brand and is now particularly popular with classic cars such as the Porsche 964. Now these eye-catching colors are making their comeback. As part of the enhanced personalization strategy of the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, the Taycan is now also available with “color of your choice” and “color of your choice plus” in addition to 17 standard paints. The first option allows painting with currently 63 additional colors. Including the brand-typical colors moonlight blue metallic, acid green, star ruby, riviera blue or violametallic. “Color of your choice plus” gives the customer almost complete freedom in choosing a color; he can choose the color of his Taycan to match his favorite accessory, for example.

Porsche Charging Service with almost 200.000 charging points

For charging, the Porsche Charging Service enables access to worldwide charging points from various providers. Central billing takes place via Porsche. There are currently almost 200.000 charging points connected in over 20 countries in Europe. These include almost 6.500 charging points with more than 50 kW DC charging power. Another highlight is the exclusive Porsche Destination Charging. Here, customers can charge their Porsche electric and plug-in hybrid models free of charge at particularly popular points of contact. The program now provides more than 2.000 AC charging points in over 50 countries, for example at selected hotels, restaurants, airports, shopping centers, sports clubs and marinas. Further expansion is in full swing. All charging processes with the Porsche Charging Service are CO2-neutral.

Taycan best seller

The Taycan has achieved particular success in the course of the year so far: with around 20.000 vehicle deliveries after the first half of the year, it is only slightly below the level of 2020 as a whole. This means that the youngest member of the model range is on par with the iconic 911 sports car.
