HUGH BUG - VW Beetle in XXL format with Dodge V8!

Who doesn't know the Volkswagen Beetle (VW Beetle / Type 1) from the trailer "Herbie". The pearly white VW Beetle with a folding roof as the "main actor" in a whole series of films by Walt Disney Studios was introduced in 1963 by the German mechanic Dr. Built stump. And, as is well known, Herbie was no ordinary car. He was a real "personality" with a will of his own and special abilities. Kind of like KITT from Knight Rider. Just a lot cuter! Herbie was able to drive, sometimes achieved impressive top speeds, was able to heat up his opponent with a wheelie and every now and then has drained the oil properly. That was his way of dealing with literally overwhelming situations. And Herbie was ALWAYS helpful and warm.

It had the start number "53" on the front hood, the bonnet, the doors and asymmetrical red-white-blue (from the front) longitudinal stripes on the left side of the car. It is still often mentioned for its cinematic fame and the typically short Beetle dimensions. In a more recent episode of Ridiculous Rides, the YouTuber now shows Barcroft Cars a father-son duo that is a real Beetle Movie car significantly enlarged from 1959. The original vehicle was exactly 4.079 millimeters long and 1.539 millimeters wide until the conversion. Typical Beetle key data! Richard Tuper and his son Scott have now increased every essential component by 40 percent. And the way that has been done is really impressive! Instead of recreating every body part using conventional means, you scanned the parts and created a digital model of them.

And the result puts most vehicles in the shade! Although the cute and cuddly aesthetic of the Beetle still exists, the huge dimensions can no longer be denied. And they originally wanted to enlarge the vehicle by 50 percent. The legal regulation for road traffic kept the project at "only" 40%. Incidentally, the giant Beetle stands on a chassis of a Dodge truck and has a mighty 5,7-liter V8 built in from the Ram. While basically all functions are available, the clutch pedal and the gear lever have no function. They only serve the classic aesthetic. Otherwise, the Beetle has all the comfort you would expect from a modern car. Everything comes from the Dodge Ram organ donor.

There is power steering, working air conditioning, heated and even ventilated seats, as well as electric windows and modern central locking. But all details are "hidden". And of course the enlarged version called “HUGE BUG” can still be opened and used as a full-fledged convertible. Incidentally, since the conversion, the Big Herbie has also had the original instruments from the Dodge truck, which are hidden under the dashboard until the engine is started and only extend if desired. Incidentally, the HUGH BUG is bigger than a Hummer H3. If we receive information on further changes in a timely manner, there will of course be an update for this report.
