Millions of Volkswagen type 1 (VW Beetles) were built. Whether in Germany, Australia, Brazil or Malaysia, the classic was screwed together everywhere and there is hardly a region in which there was no Beetle factory. This ultimately led to over 21 million Beetles being built between 1938 and 2003. And Lance Bush, a restaurateur from Texas, has a 1968 copy of the famous Herbie movie car (The Love Bug, literally translated "The love bug") rebuilt. And the fascinating process of the resurrection of the vehicle can be seen in the following video.

lots of footage from a great project

The film shows a good 50 minutes of the construction of the vehicle as well as shots from behind the scenes (from minute 4:50), because the conversion is one of the projects that was thoroughly documented. And the Herbie-inspired restoration is in the end a tuned dream that actually manages to mix the compromise of the original film vehicle with very own details and interpretations. Have fun watching!

About Thomas Wachsmuth

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
