Camping with a difference - with the VW Beetle Pickup Truck!

We know, for example, conversions of a VW Beetle into a practical pickup from Smyth Performance already. But we think this idea is even more successful. The vehicle comes from MCRides (Modern Classic Rides Inc.) and is a cool camper. And even without the camper attachment, the idea of the Beetle truck is incredibly casual. When the first generation of the VW Beetle appeared, who would have thought that it would be on the road as a truck conversion or even as a mobile home? But Steve Goodfellow from Modern Classic Rides had exactly that in his head when he started the Beetle project. The basis is a 2000 New Beetle GLX 1.8 Turbo, which is now an alternative to a massive mobile home. For the camper attachment, Steve built a removable aluminum tent support structure that allows a structure that is large enough for two people and a child. Goodfellow installed a 12V socket on the back of the camper, a separate USB charger and an LED strip for reading in the dark. The electrical devices are installed in weatherproof sockets on the rear wall.

And of course there are the changes to the Beetle itself. It was cut off behind the B-pillar and converted into a pickup with a loading area. The thick cheeks have been preserved and so the loadmaster has remained a typical Beetle even in the converted version. Even if with a little PT Cruiser flair. And it is not the last Beetle pickup camper that Goodfellow and his Modern Classic Rides crew will build. There is already another vehicle with a 2-inch lift, a larger set of tires, a turbo diesel under the hood and even amenities such as a power generator, portable toilet, refrigerator and stove should be possible. A fully electric Beetle pickup is also in preparation. And for those who prefer it a size bigger, a teardrop camper option should come in 2021.
