This tuned VW Golf GTI (MK1) from 1983 is still a classic hot hatch look, but no longer with the standard 1,8-liter four-cylinder under the hood. Instead, a 2,0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine from a Golf R is in the engine compartment. And thanks to various modifications to the engine, the power is now around 400 hp. This makes driving a wild experience. The GTI has so much power and the gear ratio is so short that first and second gear are practically useless. The power only becomes usable in third gear. But even then, the driver has to keep everything under control and constantly have to make steering corrections.
wild ride with 400 hp in the VW Golf GTI
In addition, the lock on the bonnet of the MK1 not being strong enough to withstand high speeds. The driver has to stop twice to re-engage it. And the mirrors are another problem. They also cannot withstand the high speeds and fold inwards. In the video, the GPS speedometer shows a maximum speed of approx. 240 km/h and that probably feels like the speed of sound on an airplane. Have fun with the video!
